You can try playing a track with known running time and time it. As noted in my previous post, this method is not 100% accurate - but should answer if it is at least in the ballpark.

You can download for free and print a stroboscopic disc ( 60 Hz for USA ) here : http://www.keystrobe.com/keystrobe/discs.html

I bought an all for my iPhone called iRPM to calibrate the TT for $4.99.

My TT speed is 33.4-33.5 for (33)
and TT speed for (45) is 45.0-45.1

Never made sense to me why they'd boast about the glass platter but put a big piece of felt between it and the record.

Hmmm. This is what I do except with an acrylic platter. I got lost in the debate between cork and felt. Thankfully i don't have any static issues so just kept the felt mat. I dunno, putting something that I don't to get scratched (Record) onto something hard that may scratch (platter) always seemed scary too me lol.

Does anyone wish to comment and give me an idea of the turntable I wan't to buy? The Pro-Ject carbon debut is about $400 and seems to be a good one for my needs. I can really use some knowledge of this is the one that has a humming sound or if it's something. Because I have been hearing some negative reviews from others that it hums even when it is grounded well and make sure the rca's are tight. So pretty much if anyone owns one can give me some feedback. Also there is one called Rega P1 made in England, A few dollars more but wanted to know which one would have a better sound quality and I make the right choice.
Thanks

BTW U-Turn Audio is a good and cheap intro to Turntables :)

Do you think it could be my needle or cartridge?

I recalibrate do the tone arm again and it does sound a bit better.

What tracking force do you have the cartridge set for, and how did you measure it?

Also, is that cartridge new? It may just be the pics, but I'm actually having a hard time seeing the stylus coming out of the cantilever.

My tracking force is 1.85.
The recommended tracking force is 2.25 but it sounds terrible the I try +/- and ended up with this 1.85 which sound better than 2 and above.
The cartridge is definitely old I believe but I'm not sure because I just bought it used from a store here.
The needle looks bad to me because it looks chipped.

After 5 hour sleepon my part :  your speed is kind of OK ( 0.2% high in 33 1/3 which is a bit high , 0.1% at 45 is OK ).

That stylus is unfortunately clogged in dirt and/or chipped. I did say ADC QLM 34 MK III is a FINE cartridge - so getting a new stylus for it definitely makes sense. Depending on your budget, you can opt for the original QLM, go higher still with a XLM MK III, what is currently available on ebay I would go with is the ORIGINAL QLM 36 MK III :
http://www.ebay.de/itm/ADC-RQLM-36-mk-III-stylus-for-QLM-36-Upgrade-for-all-other-QLM-series-/331328174075?pt=US_Record_Player_Turntable_Parts&hash=item4d24b2b7fb ( I use german ebay because of same time zone, just get the item # and proceed from assumingly ebay (usa) ) These diasa tips REALLY do sound great - some even prefer them to nude diamond XLM and up. PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE BY NOW RARE AS HEN's TEETH -
and worth every penny.  What I would also get regardless of the above is this replica from Pfanstiehl : http://www.ebay.de/itm/Adc-Rsq33-Rsq34-Ersatz-Stylus-Qlm33-Mk111-Rsq30-Rsq32-Rsq34-/261592475574?pt=Plattenspielerzubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item3ce82067b6  I bought one more as a "joke" - and was shocked how precisely it is made - in precision of stylus polishing/mounting my sample is second to none and only slight resonance at approx 12 kHz ( and a bit reduced trackability ) will set it apart from the original deal. If you want more instant gratification at low price, this one might or might not be identical : http://www.ebay.de/itm/PHONO-NEEDLE-ADC-RK6E-RK7E-RK8E-RSQ32-QLM32mkII-110-DET-4110-DET-/270347783249?pt=US_Record_Player_Turntable_Parts&hash=item3ef1fbcc51 You may want to get one of the cheap BUT good replicas above to check that your TT is OK prior splashing for the original - but that original QLM 36 MK III loooks mighty tempting - a friend just snapped his, sooooo ... first come, first served !

There are TONS of ADC replicas - some even better than the originals - yet at low low price as above the rest is usually not much better then your present one.

Thanks. I would go for option 3 just to try out and make sure the problem is the stylus.

How about changing a cartridge?
Can I change to AT or Grado or Ortofon or I can only change to Sony?
I find that AT has the most spare parts.

You can change the cart to AT, Grado or Ortofon - and there are Sony carts up to say a grand - yes, they DID make one of pinnacles in cartridge world!

Like I said, ADC is a MIGHTY FINE cartridge. Under certain circumstances, preferable to all of the above, with the exception of the big Sony. A properly functioning and adjusted QLM 36 MK III in a decent arm is one hell of a performer - so worth sticking to it. Even under "till last stylus is gone" conditions. Getting the same sonics at anything the price may be difficult if not impossible.

Agreed, AT is the most backed up with spares.

Thanks again!
I will stick with my ADC since I only paid $40 for this TT and yes i will get the replica stylus tomorrow. I'm going to bed now. It's my turn.

You have a good one and I will keep you posted when I got my new stylus.

Thanks for your advise and I wanted to know if the AC vs, DC motor will make less hum or no hum at all I know that the DC motor is stronger I think? The Poject carbon debut is what I am looking at and seeing the difference,I know that there has been issues with some turntables and the Project company has both,AC $400 and DC $450 ,I guess it is an upgrade but will any of them help with unwanted sound?
 Thanks!

@analogsurviver

Hey! I got my needle today and I test it out. Listen to this https://www.dropbox.com/s/c4x8htljjqhkxol/Video%20Sep%2027%2C%2021%3A11%3A59.mov?dl=0

Sounds much better! Seems as we expected, it was indeed the needle.
