So I've revisited the issue about the sibilance I've been having with my AT440MLa. I think I might have exaggerated it a little bit.

I recorded a track from one of my records through my computer's on board line-in jack and decided to compare it with my digital copy of the same song. It turns out that I was playing it too loud and it accentuated the sibilance a lot. The amp portion of my headphone DAC+amp is also quite bright so it had really made for some harsh top ends and sssssibilantssssss

Initially I've recorded the track to ask whether the amount of sibilance is acceptable or not, now I don't think I need to ask anymore. But still here's the download link for the test recording if any of you are interested. Sound quality might not be top notch as the on board sound chip is only capable of 16 bit recording.

Are the sibilance levels acceptable for an AT440MLa?

Sounds good to me.

I wanna take a whack at this.
Setup: Objective Stack + DT880 600 ohm.

Its uh pretty dark no? Its probably the recording but the violins or whatever feel really pushed back to me and to get them at adequate levels raises the volume in the mids and bass too loud. very mid centered track with boomy bass.

sorry, im not trying to insult the music or anything like that, just trying to give me honest impression of the sound.
would be curious to see others impressions and see how i stack up! :)

No offense taken, also I have no idea how your equipment sound, tried the DT880 a few years back and already forgotten the sound signature. I think its how the music was mixed and you have to turn up the volume so everything is audible.

Aside from the music, I'm just more concerned with the amount of sibilance.

That sounds acceptable. It is difficult to go into finer details - recording part on your side might make more trouble than the TT/cart itself. In a perfect world, through absolutely transparent "links", this would be on the verge of acceptability before declared too bright. Provided the mastering is neutral and not bright - not familiar with this music, so - really hard to tell.

Another reminder for me to do that promised long overdue cartridge loading post ...

I refuse to buy records that cost more than a decent, entry level turntable.

I have the original Candy-O album and even though I take great care with my albums, there are some pops and clicks I can't seem to get cleaned out.  My Who's Next was a wreck the moment I bought it new in the 70's and I hoped to upgrade.  The 180g I bought for <$30 is not at all impressive.  Hot Stamper looks the most promising but they are expensive.

I have both the MoFi and the Nautilus. Both are excellent. But get the MoFi, because its in print and not that expensive.
