Toranku's Thoughts and Reviews (and target EQ filters!)

Hi toranku, what are the differences between the m7 and the evr sound wise? Which is better for jpop, jrock and female vocals?

In terms of sound sig i like forward/airy vocals, bass thats north of neutral but not overdone ,good clarity and sounstage/imaging.

I haven't AB'd them, but from what I remember I think EVR is warmer and has thicker vocals. However EVR has an early treble spike which can make it sound fatiguing. Not sure if that would be addressed in CIEM.

For airy vocals I'd recommend the OH10. Sports a fantastic bass response as well that is north of neutral.

I see, i will see if could try the OH10, thanks. So in your opinion the OH10 is better than both the evr and M7?

Indeed, the Ikko OH10. I just realized that I do not have anything written down for it. The OH10 has a great bass response that reaches deep into the subbass. Lower mids are recessed but not in a scooped out manner. The uppermids and treble are an emphasised region which lends vocals and instruments an airy tone. Has fantastic treble extension as well. I think it's well executed but at the same time, I'd like to spend more time with it to gather further thoughts.

Possibly? The OH10 has a different tonality compared to the warmer, richer lower harmonics M7 and EVR. Definitely prefer it over the EVR, but for M7 I think they can trade blows. It's hard to compare 2 distinct tunings since OH10 goes for a high clarity, airy and clear signature while M7 springs for a warmer, generally downsloping signature.

Have you heard the TIn Hifi P1?

I have. It's...odd. Simultaneously blunted attack yet have upper treble spikes. Makes cymbals sound fatiguing yet not at the same time. Add that to the closed in staging and you get a totally average / below average sounding IEM.

I'm glad you're finding the OH10 so interesting. I've been enjoying it for a good while now. As you evaluate if further, take the time to really discover what tips give you the maximum SQ. Also, a cable change helps quite a bit. I find a wide bore tip gives a more airy and open sound, and the quality copper cable can make the highs a tad more mellow yet still maintain the sparkle and air (I initially found the OH10 a bit metallic and biting from time to time).

Yeah, going back to try the OH10 soon. The ATH IEX-1 (new ATH flagship IEM) has also landed so I'll check that out soon too.

I hope they moved away from the 2000Ti series tuning for this one.

Gosh, that one was bad. I was confused why ATH would come up with a tuning like this. Just bright, radio-like and tinny all at the same time. Can't wait to try the IEX-1.
Curious how the OH10 would compare to the Oxygen when you get a chance
I should be able to at the end of the month

Anyone tried the ~$250 Obravo Cupid yet?

It's damn clean and clear with the E1DA 9038S DAC/AMP and Spiral Dots+ tips. Natural tonality, virtually no grain and a wide stage with comparable depth. Competes up to $1000, of that I have little doubt.

Big fan of the Cupid - it's probably the most tip and fit dependent IEM I've ever heard, though. Spiral Dots really do make the sound stand out from the crowd, though. One of those unusual IEMsv where if you insert too deep, the stage tends to collapse. If you get the depth and seal right, it's a very enjoyable experience. Just my 0.02c.
