iirc the 1650 and 1670 measure very similarly outside of a few db at the treble

Lucky you...I almost cant get acoustune to sit in my ear properly. The shell always rubs against some part of my ear. Acoustunes definitely look damn good though, I'm a fan of the red+gold 1551 and your black+gold 1650. Enjoy them!

Thank you very much. Frankly the fit isn’t the best or rather my fav such as those of StageDiver type mould, however it seems to sit okay in my ear =]

Stagediver shells are simply some of the most well researched and most well thought out. Most people I know who have tried them reported back with good results.

Really hope companies start to take such highly ergonomic shells into consideration. I'm seeing more and more chifi go with such an approach. I thought that the Massdrop Plus was a nice shell too. Really pops into my ears.

Had the MassDrop Plus for a month or two. While the fit was good, quality of materials used had lots of work for improvement.

First Impressions: Lime Ears Aether

The Aether represents one of my favourite tunings I've ever heard. With the flick of the bass switch, it turns from slightly warm to warmer with big more bass presence. I like it a lot with the bass switch on. Smooth and somewhat laidback, making it quite a relaxed tuning which I am a big fan of in IEMs (which is why I love the 334!). That said it's bass isnt that bad too - extension and boost at the subbass is great. In terms of width it's also above average

The only flaw I find with the Aether is it's vocal range. It sounds odd...it sounds nasal. It's not nasal as something like the 64 Fourte but it's noticeable for me. Other than that, treble has enough shimmer and sparkle whilst not being fatiguing and the bass does extend well with the bass switch on. I thought that the tuning was executed very well.

First Impressions: Whizzer Kylin

Pretty intense V-shape. Bass feels really dynamic. Good slam and impact but perhaps slightly dull and blunted. Lower treble is quite loud, cymbals are in your face. Surprisingly has quite a lot of depth...perhaps due to the V shape. Vocals carry a warm tone but are behind in the mix. Bass bleeds into midrange.

Quite a generic tuning, but at least the bass is nice. Decent competitor to the IT01S, but the IT01S has less bleed and better balance overall.

For reference , what are some of your favorite IEMs out there?

Warm and relaxed sounding I'd say. But not with too much thundering bass. I like 334 but it does need to have a tad bit more bass for my preference as well as better extension at the low end. EX800st is one of my favourite signatures thus far. Only problem is that it doesnt have isolation! Also the imaging can be improved. VE8 is also very nice, but I dont think I can justify its asking price unfortunately. Incredibly well tuned though!

One IEM that has recently caught my attention was the qdc 8CL. If only the mids were a little more forward...it sounds similar to Gemini with the bass switch off.

edit: I also enjoy the tuning of the UERR too. Just needs more bass quality and quantity.

Nice thread. I like to read about a lot of different items that I don't hear about too often.

Only have a month left in Japan :frowning2: Truly the land of IEMs. Not too much to worry though, Singapore still maintains a good variety.

I'll be buying the Future Sonics MG5HX when I'm back in SG. Will report back. No demos so its a risky blind buy haha (not too concerned about liking it).

Yes, I kinda prefer warm

Huh, it's actually kinda tough to recommend something with spectacular vocals. A lot of iems out there have decent vocals if they happen to be warm. Not sure if Fiio FH5 will be too forward for you in vocals.

Hope you could answer this question with your vast experience reviewing earphones!
I have never tried the Aether but the Hifi boy OS V3 gives me the same feeling too, would you know why do these companies tune the vocals to make them sound like they have blocked nose??
It definitely doesn't sound natural at all to my ears, but they have their fans. I remember some audio technica iem's are tuned to sound like the singers have a serious case of flu too.

I've never tried the OS V3. I know that a subbass boost can make mids sound "underwater" but for nasality..I dont know what's causing it. The 64 Fourte has my singers sounding like they REALLY need to sneeze
