Interested in these IEM, Most importantly the Rai Penta. Love your wright up Keep up the great work!

  • Meze Rai Penta - I'm saving up for this one. Curious how it stack up with Andromeda and Xelento.
  • Fearless S8Freedom
  • Fearless S10 Genie
  • Fearless ACME8

The Rai Penta demo is actually 2 hours away from me. I've been curious to try it but it's a little out of the way. If I'm around the area I would spring by.

Regarding the Fearless IEMs, they don't have any distributors in Singapore. I'll try reaching out to some of their dealers to get temporary demo units. Could share them with the Singaporean folks too.

Frequency Response Graph of the MG5HX. As predicted, the huge bass is balanced by the boosted middle-mids to uppermids. However it doesnt have a very uppermidrange dominated tone (e.g Ikko OH1) - the warmth from the (dirty) bass boost balances the tone out. Channel matching seems to be a problem - that difference in L and R channel is audible and is a very measurable difference. Perhaps the bubble that they seat the DD in cannot be truly consistent which accounts for the difference. Not sure if I want to send them back - who knows if they'll come back with even worse matching.

HI there, I would be very keen to hear your impressions/thoughts on the following IEMs if you get the chance at CanJam:

- 64Audio U18t (U18Tzar)
- Lark Studios LSX
- AAW Mockingbird

Cheers !

All 3 iems can be found in SG regardless of any event - I'll be prioritising other new releases in the upcoming CanJam. I'll write up some thoughts on the three when I have the time to visit a store

Wonderful , thanks. I am especially interested in a comparison between the U18t and the JH Roxannes. I have the Roxanne (and fully agree with your assessment of its strengths and weaknesses), and I am hoping that the U18t do what the Roxanne’s do, but do it much better (eg deeper soundstage etc).
I know a lot of ppl don’t like the JH sound because it leans towards being a little warm and bassy (except the Layla, perhaps), but I happen to like slightly warm and bassy, and hate shrill and siblient. Fingers crossed that the U18t is a more perfect Roxanne!

Edit: I must say having re-read your U12t review, I wonder if its the U12t which is the one that should be potentially looked as a "better Roxanne", since the U12t drivers configurations seems tilted to more warm and bassy sound when compared to the U18t..

First Impressions: AAW Mockingbird

Highly odd timbre. The timbre sounds artificial and plastic-y. It does cause vocals to sound hollow. Overall signature is balanced sounding with a slight boost at the upper midrange and recession at the lower treble to reduce fatigue. It does extend decently with upper treble with enough shimmer. Midbass also has fantastic speed and snap. Stage is on the bigger side of things with decent width.

Worst part of this iem (coupled with the bad timbre) is that the imaging is generally undefined and "hazy". Sounds very low res due to these factors. Hard pass.

Thank you for the thorough assessment. Its disappointing to see such an overall poorly implemented IEM from AAW, especially given the Mockingbird is near the TOTL in their range in terms of price etc (just below the Canary I think).

May I also request to add InEars Prophile8 to your rapidly expanding list of impressions :)

Like the Meze Rai Penta right? right!?

Hahaha, I actually tried to go demo the PP8 since it was closer to me but the store actually closed to prep for CanJam... May visit the store with the Penta tomorrow.

It sounds a bit thin and boring, but very airy and spacious.

That was what I felt as well. Greatly technical but seems to have a real lack of emotion overall.
