Here's my top 3 (too tired for top 5 tonight) for sound stage quality (not just quantity):

1.) HD800
2.) T1
3.) PS1000

Where is the M50's soundstage? I haven't found it yet, but I keep hearing about it!
Just kidding, I've never had any luck with a decent soundstage on my M50s like others have.
I guess I need to find some better music for testing this out. I just picked up "Dark Side of the Moon", so if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know! Sorry, off topic. Kind of.

Massive Attack's Mezzanine is a great album for soundstage testing, especially Teardrop, which you may recognize as the title track for House.

Sennheiser 580/600 have a very intimate soundstage! ....Ugh. My closed M50 has more width than the 580/600.

Was that directed to my comment? If so I was merely comparing K701/2 to HD580/600/650, nothing else.

Size-wise it would be like :
1. HD800
2. AKG 701
3. Stax Omega 2
4. HE 5 LE
5. Stax 404LE

That's based on what I've heard in several headphones, and that doesn't indicate the soundstage quality, only the size.

I hear great things about the soundstage of the Sony MDR-F1. I wonder how they stack up to the K701/2

Off personal experience:

1. K701
2. AD700
3. DT880 (slightly smaller than the AD700, but much more enjoyable)

The M50's soundstage is laughably bad. They're small even for a closed can's soundstage. the DT770 wins in this regard, off personal experience.

It sounds like it is artificially enhanced similar to how software/hardware spatializers create the illusion of surround sound. Listening to one of the Chesky Audiophile Test discs (I forget which) they play something as it was recorded straight without any alterations. Then they add artificial decay and resonance to make it sound like the studio room is a large concert hall. It sounds pretty bad to me.

I agree, although I actually like the k701s' soundstage with the right amp. But natural it is not.
