Okay, I stand corrected. Tested this out with the continuous passage on Beethoven's 9th just before the last movement. There is a small hesitation between songs with UAPP that comes across almost as a click. Less pronounced than with the Tidal app, but it's there.  It doesn't seem to go away when I mark the album as "offline" in Tidal and download it.  I also tried a number of buffer sizes and that didn't solve it either.

UAPP has no problem with a seemless transition on my own FLAC files.

Interesting, even the offline content can't be made to run together? For some reason I thought they could, obviously I was mistaken. I haven't really used Tidal very much in about 6 months so I guess I'll have to poke about under the hood again.

Hey. Does anyone have current news on MQA? There was a  lot of buzz, and then it died down. Then it was about Apple for a while, and whatever the results of those talks, there hasn't been much information. I don't know how any of that will affect MQA at all, but I'm still hoping to see the rollout.

Do the ones with old logins still have access to MQA or did they manage to patch that? If you still have the MQA option, has there been any increase in MQA files?

Thanks!

Don't get hung up on MQA would be my thought. The VAST majority of the musical library you likely care about isn't likely to ever become MQA. At best it is a tiny, tiny, tiny little sliver of music going to end up in MQA, at least for the foreseeable future, IMO.

When I AB'd Tidal and Spotify I found it more difficult because Tidal seems to play louder than Spotify.

Ok, I'll guess I'll have to say it. I'm talking about the majority African/black artists and the "how survive being black in America." crap on the main page. Take it how you want and think what you want, but I find that's BS.

What's this? I've never noticed any editorial on Tidal. BS or otherwise.

Thanks SD. That sounds like sane advice. I heard rumors of Tidal possibly gradually converting their catalogue. But, I knew it was rumors of a possibility. It's too bad though as it seems like solid technology that was able to bypass the delivery limitations of DSD. I still hope for progress but, you're right. We shouldn't hold our breath.

it is louder but also seems more full.i still have a lot more testing to do on all different genre's. I just listened to led zeppelin whole lotta love and i could tell a difference at the very beginning with page guitar sounding more heavy and when john paul jones came in with the bass it seemed to add more fullness. Still idk if its worth $10 more dollars but im gonna find out!

Tidal is louder likely as we perceive louder as sounding better, hence the advantage of being appropriately louder. Remove volume enhancement, and there is no reason Spotify, Tidal, Deezer etc should sound different if they all work from the same master.

Yes mate, don't give up hope, just don't hold your breath. It is a monumental task to return to master session files and create new masters. They will likely simply do so moving forward and for the past library only do what data suggests is the most popular music which may or may not be what you like. We can only hope, not to mention I would still bet that if mastering volumes are left alone telling the difference between MQA files and others will be pretty darn difficult to pick out in blind listening tests. Again IMO.

Amen brother, do not like iTunes and I hate the Apple style of trapping you in their eco-system. Brand me reactionary, but for me it is almost anything but Apple. It isn't that I question the quality Apple brings to the table, but if anybody thinks that one massive player in the streaming marketplace is a good thing for consumers, well ......

Have to agree.  Like most things, having options is critical.  These mono-cultured landscapes in our society are pervasive.  Not quality-based.

Cheers

ive noticed more than just louder.like for instance i was listening to led zeppelin stairway to heaven and page solo was a bit sharper and most recognizable to me was bonham's drumming that leads out of the solo hit much harder.so far i have only found a difference with the stronger points of songs like solos, base lines are a tad bit more recognizable, and when the drummer really is getting on the drums hard. To me things like that are what i have noticed.i set spotify at the exact time the solo started as well as tidal.i would listen to one until solo was over and then the other.i did notice a difference. Its hard to tell throughout a whole song but bits and pieces sood out when i compared them. I have a lot more music to compare but so far im not sure if its worth another $120 a year.
