i cannot believe they took away the express card slot and added (SD of all things) bloody apple! the new white and black macbook looks great though. nothing taken away as far as i can tell, just upgraded. bloody Apple need to go put their head in some ash-drowned hole for an evening. i am sick of my 2007 macbook pro looking better and better compared to the newer machines. oh bother, some good stuff too!

I'm disappointed with the hardware. I want to buy an ipod touch, and was hoping for an OLED display. (The new Zune has one, though the screen is smaller) As for the iphone, I'm still in the "can't-afford-mandatory-data-plan" group. (I gots wi-fi at schoolz)

I'm in the same boat. There is absolutely no way I'm replacing my Cingular 8125 until I can get a replacement without a data plan. I was able to purchase the 8125 3 years ago without one and I've never felt the need for cell data. WiFi is everywhere now, including almost every square inch of Iowa State University.

I'd buy an iPhone in a heartbeat if I didn't have to fork out for useless services.

looks like they are giving the 3g some damn sexy upgrades with the new firmware, aside from the extra 16 gigs of space which would be very nice I think I'm good with my 16 gig 3G. The new macbooks are making me wish I needed one but I just upgraded last august.

^^^If you're on ATT, data plans are only required for iphones, I believe. They are getting some decent winmo phones (HTC diamond 2 and touch pro 2), but they'll probably be very expensive and HTC phones aren't great with media playback. The hardware is still iffy also- no 3.5 jack, poor build quality, etc.

Like you said phones will likely be very expensive, but I sure hope the build quality hasn't gone down. My HTC 8125 has taken a lot of abuse over the years but it still works perfectly. My dad's 8125 even survived 45 minutes in a laundromat dryer sans the melted case that was easily replaced with a new one from ebay. I'm confident that I could throw it 20 feet onto concrete and it'd still be fine.

As far as video playback and music go, I couldn't care less. That's what the Zune is for.

^Check out XDA developers if you haven't already, there's a lot of info on HTC winmo phones.

Personally, I'm probably gonna get an LG incite ($50 on contract). It's pretty bare-bones, but it does have a 3.5mm jack and a good userbase. (They've already got winmo 6.5 working on it) I want to use the rest of the money to buy a ipod touch, media playback is top priority.
