Are you associated with that band? I'm listening to "This is Herman Nelson" and digging it!
Edit: Actually, I'm really digging the entire album

Had these for a while now and though they sound good the comfort issue kills them.

It can be fixed by buying new earpads but imo it affected the sound in a negative way when i tried the earpads alot of other users are using here.

Thanks! Yes i am the bass player on both albums.

Which reminds me, i should probably give them a listen with the WS99s...spinning the vinyl now:D

Awesome man!  I've been listening on my new $30 (lol - what a deal) Koss DJ100 Tony Bennett's, and it sounds great. I'll have to check it out with the WS99's as well...

They are easy to drive, but they also benefit from an amp quite a bit. I prefer the brighter C&C BH with the ws99's.

Will the guitar be as crunchy and prominent as they are with the CKN70s? With the S500s for example, I find the guitars to be almost non-existent. They sound very muffled, and way too smooth. I'm looking for over-ears that sound as balanced as possible with more than neutral bass and are closed. Can anyone compare the sound signature of the WS99s to the CKN70s?

Well, got my 99s today...and upon first listen...whoa.  These things are awesome.  Super comfortable (compared the M100s) and the sound is spectacular so far.  Can't wait to amp these a bit w/ my e12 a little later tonight.  Definitely impressed so far.

Cool. I'm looking forward to you impressions versus the M100's.

How do the WS99s compare to other Audio Technicas like the ES700s, AD900, and ESW9s when disregarding bass response?

I'm thinking about getting the WS99s, but I'm not a basshead and really prefer clarity. That being said, I can appreciate some nice bass, as long as it is not overwhelming and doesn't mean compromising on the mids and highs. I am leaning towards the WS99s for a set of portable cans because they seem to be the most comfortable and portable.

Does anyone have any case recommendations for the Audio Technica line of headphones? I like how they lay flat but was disappointed they didn't come with even a carry pouch.

Yes. Buy this headphone:

And use the case for your WS99:

I got the Koss DJ100 Tony Bennetts on sale at Staples for $30 which was a stupid good deal. And that's not even taking into consideration the great case that they came with. Score!

The WS99 fulfills all of the things you listed. Its bass is strong, but not overpowering, and the highs and mids are well represented. The soundstage is also not bad, especially given a good amp and DAC. Like wayne, I also use the ELE DAC and BH/E12.
