Man I don't know where the backing plates are! I thought they were pretty much useless when I bought them so I never even thought about it.

I'm not using the backing plates on the WS99.  Seperation and soundstage is better without them although the bass was nuts with them on.  The WS99 were vibrating crazier than the S500s did out of box.

So what other earpads work on these?  The 'usual suspects' aka Beyer velours, gels and HiFiMan leathers/Shure leathers?

At least I know what to get if stock pads doesn't provide sufficient bass for my needs.

They should be tempting... because they are awesome. But, if ear massage/blasting is what you're after, then imo the S500's provide more of that. Let's put it this way: I feel the S500's pounding my ears with bass to the point where I find it fatiguing. But I find the WS99's bass to be more extended, detailed, controlled, fuller and refined (with a lovely amount of sub-bass) without pounding my eardrums into submission

What??? Yes, I get a nice tingling sensation via sub-bass with the WS99's (with the appropriate song/bass), but I get an eardrum pounding sensation with the S500's. You don't experience the same thing? If not, I wonder what's wrong with your ears?

^ my ears are golden sup with you. Though the FXZ200s have had them literally ringing for half a day one time, so kiddies don't listen to your cans/ iems at that high of a volume if you treasure your hearing.

The S500s never hurt my ears even with my super beefed up HM5 modded set, nor does these WS99s, yeppp something is wrong with yours for sure. Ears that is. : P

Well, one thing we can agree on is that RPG is MISSING OUT! I'm not sure how he can live his days NOT listening to his awesome foobar2000 "forward" dolby profile without the WS99's!

I'm only waiting for europe availability, as I'd like to order from amazon.co.uk, it should be arriving end of this month according to AudioTechnicaUK. I hope it can satisfy my bass needs because for me Q40's bass is just right quantity wise. I both want it to punch and rumble my face.
