Not that the M100 are bad but I prefer the WS99's.  M100's have a more of a laid back sound compared.  Bass is less punchy but seems to reach deeper on the M100.  Midrange is definitely more forward on the WS99.  Treble is more sparkly on the WS99.  Stage is pretty close but the M100's have this nice 3D feel and the 99's sound wider.  In my opinion, the 99's work better with most genres of music.  Famous quotes form most of the threads, "it all depends on your preferred signature."

So WS99 have punchier bass? cool I like punchy bass, not the soft rumbly subbass focused but about equal of both sub and midbass. The WS99 should start shipping anytime now in europe so might pick one up.

What was better about the M-100?

To me, the bass was better and being a basshead that matters of course. Both good phones and both have small ear pads but I actually feel the M-100 just has a better sound.

Right! Got sidetracked (as usual, I blame Lifted Andres!). Will report back soon!

WS99's are better all rounder than the COP's. The M100's are even better all rounders and as a basshead can over the COP's. I find the Beyers perfect for club music and not as good as the other two for much else.

Ok, I spent some quality time with Daft Punk and my WS99's, then CKS1000's...

Whacky music LOL! I felt like I was transported back in time and plunked in the middle of the disco floor! I'm not sure that I'm a big fan of the use of synthesizers for the vocals, but after a while I got used to it, and it has grown on me. But you are right, it is incredibly well produced and engineered, and sounds fantastic on the WS99's. One of those types of albums I'll be listening to quite a few times to continue picking up the nuances. And hey, it's pretty uplifting stuff as well!

My favorite tracks are "Giorgio by Moroder", "Lose Yourself to Dance" (that really got the disco in me going lol!), "Motherboard" and "Contact" (really love how those last two sound on the WS99's). Now if I could only find that disco ball and my bell bottom pants...

It's very different compared to their previous albums. The vocorder used for vocals is their signature sound, some people like it, some don't.

They recorded the whole album on analog tape at Henson Recording Studios. http://www.hensonrecording.com/
After hearing how well this album is engineered, and how full and warm the sound is, I wonder if any others are going to go back to recording in analog to get that sound.

if you have owned the lp2 I would not get the ws99 it does not have more impact than the lp2's but it is a lot clearer with about 70 percent of the lp2's impact

I'm going to get mine Monday, here's hoping for a good basshead can with high end sound.  I've got a DIY 8 conductor hybrid cable ready to install too
