My cable conviction is thus: cables can make IEMs sound different, but no cable will make everything sound better. I’m not willing to spend a few thousand on something that sounds different (unlike top tier IEMs that to me sound strictly better than anything cheaper).Oh you lucky devil. A word of advice: don't make my mistake and don't ever think of questioning your convictions out of curiosity. That could prove fatal. Stay the way you are![]()
Maybe with food, too!

Of course you're right: it's always a question of the right synergy and your own preferences. Cables don't make everything better per se, but more or less different, which in turn can be perceived as better. Cables, the way I see it, are a kind of fine tuning (for example, like when you're looking for a little more bass texture, a little more low-mids or a little less treble energy). It's about bringing out what's already there. I know it sounds like minimal improvements, but for me personally that's not true: overall, the difference is significant if everything matches. Sometimes it's small things that get in the way and that you don't want to have. This is where cables come into play - just like tips, source etc.My cable conviction is thus: cables can make IEMs sound different, but no cable will make everything sound better. Having said this, I’m kind of scared of truly testing this conviction…
For me there's also the joy of changing things up and trying an IEM with a different cable for a while. Or different tips. Or different DAP, etc. I tried to limit myself to my favorite DAP/cable/IEM combo and, even though it was *the best*, I got bored and wanted something else. So for me personally I need a good stable of choices just to mix things up and stop worrying about finding the perfect thing/synergy/one-and-done, etc.Yes, but we sometimes all need to keep a little bit of perspective here. Tip rolling costs a few tens of dollars, whilst some members on this forum are talking about cable rolling where each cable sometimes costs more than the IEM they’re being paired with! Same can be said about DAPs (or other sources).
However, I agree with you that when everything synergises perfectly it can feel like magic, and I’m in not way judging anyone for spending whatever money they want (and can hopefully afford) on the hobby that makes them happy. I myself am guilty of spending objectively far too much on IEMs!
Astrolith, along with the Clara, are at the top of my list for CJ, so I'll be putting that to the test for sure!If you want a serious bass that is also super fast, you should try the CFA Astrolith. It's amazing with metal.
That will be my first track after lunch, thanks bud!Death Cab - "Black Sun" on Legion with the bass line.
It's an absolute winner.
Do you not perceive the Trifecta's treble as rather harsh (at least at louder volumes)?Campfire Trifecta by a country mile.

It's exactly this kind of extraordinary news that quintuples the value of this thread for me! Must feel good as a dad too!Friends and cool people, have news on my daughter’s developing song writing, her first track is now on Tidal and Spotify. Super excited should be a second track in a couple weeks. She is doing this on her own paying another person to help with studio time. She is making cloths and selling them to raise funds to pay for it, so truly doing this on her own.
