It is not just about tuning but also about technicals and overall cohesion.
Which still comes down to one's preference one way or the other.

I have owned more specialist IEMs like Thummim, which was incredibly fun for some music genres but a poor fit for jazz or classical music.
I still loved it to bits (not just the sound but the crazy ear-torture-machine cyberpunk looks).
Down to preferences indeed. I have all three. I strongly prefer my Annihilator over the Mentor (edit: if I have to choose because it's really apples and oranges) and I like the Thummim with jazz. :)
Preparing for the impact when I hear them at our euro meetup! Everything I have read about them sounds like this is what I'm looking for. Just hoping for an improved Ronin or Rn6 just before I pull the trigger.

Would a slightly more aggressive DAP to VE X a favour? A 320 perhaps? Hopefully with a nutube?

The sensitivity and hiss are areas of concern for me, esp. when used with powerful sources or tubes, but let's see/hear in a few weeks. :)

I always rediscover that I need lush mids. Would love to hear these one day, to know if they would be a good fit for me.

VE mids are magical. Indeed, lush, organic and extends nicely with about just enough air to not sound too artificial.

I can say it pairs well with M9+ so a 320 with the right AMP might produce a similar type of sound to extend that lush mid-range. 320 would be neutral with slight boost to mids and bass so I could see it pairing well with an AMP14 perhaps.

Hiss is not one of my concerns as I mostly listen to garbage recordings and preferably through tubes anyway. Not being able to get exactly the volume level I prefer would drive me nuts though.

Tnx. Was thinking PAW6k might be too polite. Perhaps @Deezel177 knows what the effect would be? (most likely that is - it's a gamble what I'd prefer anyway)

I know what you mean. Probably against my better judgment I pulled the trigger on a PB5, with the stepped attenuation. Fingers crossed. 😊

I did add a small edit to the bottom of my post to call that out as well. Thanks for the reminder.

Paired with LPGT you still have that signature VE mids, just slightly leaning towards neutral as you would find on VE7. Overall speaking I thought it struck a great balance between musicality and naturalness, which sounds delightful

I could give it a go with the P6K the next time I visit my dealer. But, if your concern is it being too polite compared to something like the Ronin, I wouldn’t worry if I were you. I reckon the VE X has more bite and livelier PRaT, while I recall the Ronin being on the softer, more laidback and more expansive side.

Tnx! I don't have LPGT though and if upgrading I would want tubes for sure.

Think more bite than Ronin and Traillii but less than Rn6 and Sultan. Let me know if I'm overasking

VEX actually does sit in the middle ground, it slams hard but definitely not as bass-focused as Rn6:drum:

From memory, the X has more bite and livelier PRaT than the Ronin. It’s got a more textured and dynamic midrange than the Trailli, but with a more linear, even treble (vs. the Trailli’s famous 5kHz dip + 8kHz peak combo). It has a more vibrant, open midrange than the Rn6’s denser, 2kHz-biased midrange, and it isn’t as bite-y in the treble. And, I’ve never heard the Sultan.

Again, all of those comparisons are based off memory, so I’m only about 80-85% confident. But, I hope that’s good enough for now.

More BCD = More Better
Right guys?! Guys?
...
Get the pitchforkkkkkks!
It's likely limited, and it will be 1/2 the price next year. That's how it is with AK IEMs, and even more so with . The 3kT sounds interesting though .
That's true, but I probably won't be grabbing those second hand anyways. I notice that those also tend to slow down in terms of movement when it drops to that price.

The new Mason FS ST has the best Midrange I have ever heard. The lush vocal and holographic soundstage with the BCD effect is just so unique even compare with other summit fi IEMs
Wallet bleeding for many coolers!
