i have asked before, and i will try asking it again. Is burning it iem a real thing or a myth? i watched Crinicales video and he said it was a myth.

If you put an iem in a burning fireplace, yes it will burn it’s not a myth 😂

More seriously why not ? Moreover if it has moving parts (ie DD driver). But asking this question is feeding the endless debate …

I am a newbie, so i dont honestly know nor do i want to start a debate. Im just wondering if i should start doing it. Seen YT vids of people doing and people saying its BS.

My advice would be to learn it the best way : yours.

Try it and see (hear) by yourself if it makes something in your use cases, so you will be fixed and will do or no with your next gears.

It should only cost / save you time 🙂

Just speaking for myself, I stick with a portable setup not so much for portability, but for transportability. By which I mean, I’m not going to pull out my Sp3k + Tsuranagi on an airplane or on the subway, or for going on a walk. But I highly value being able to listen to my gear while on the couch playing Zelda, or at my desk while working, or laying in bed as I wind down for the evening. The idea of being stuck with a single listening spot in the house that I have to go to when listening is just unappealing for me.
This is actually why I am selling my headphones. I either go full on speakers or IEMs from now on.

You could always try the 'natural' burn-in. Just listen to the IEMs out-of-the-box. If you enjoy them then all is well. It's possible that over time you'll notice some 'slight' changes, but that could just be a by-product of brain burn-in or you just getting used to the sound of the IEMs. If you're unsure then try burning them in and maybe you'll find the bass has settled, or your ears/opinion has settled. Don't get too caught up in it and just listen. Or to eliminate any doubts just burn them in out-of-the-box and take brain/ear burn-in out of the equation. Personally, if I don't enjoy an IEM out of the box, I just move on. I've always been skeptical of claims that burning in an IEM for "hundreds of hours" will change anything. That IEM would have to be my one and only IEM that I've had in my ears for hundreds if not thousands of hours using only one source for me to trust any sonic changes I may hear.

Burn-in and cables will forever be controversial topics simply due to the eternal objective/subjective debate that underpins both . I've had just enough experience with each that I'm neither a card carrying evanglist, nor a denier of either phenomenon. I do put a lot of stock in "brain burn in" because in my experience there is so much-- one's mood, the weather/atmospheric pressure, pre-conceived bias etc., and a dozen other factors-- that can color one's perceptions of how an IEM sounds. I will say that I tend to sympathize innately with the "pro" side of both camps simply because of how obnoxious, hostile and self-righteous the "deniers" can be sometimes.

You subtly added cables to the initial burn-in subject, well done 😂

Ok so I jump in the hole : cables matters 😁

Hey gang -

Checking in if there would be any interest from you all on community tours for the following products from the teams I work with:
  1. FatFreq Scarlet Mini & Maestro Mini
  2. DUNU Falcon Ultra & Alpha 3
  3. Symphonium Meteor & iFi audio Go Pod (first up) // Symphonium Helios (not immediately, in the future)
  4. A selection of PLUSSOUND cables or future individual new releases.

Ideally, we would be arranging these tours for simultaneous participation in North America, EU, and AUS/NZ (which will be with @Damz87 assisting for the latter region).

Please like this post if you'd like to participate in them in general and reply for which ones specifically you'd like to be a part of.

Thanks for helping my team and clients get a good gauge of what the community still needs to hear and wants to see so we can plan our future discussions accordingly.

Also, we're looking to get some more DAP brands involved in the work we do - if there's anyone you know that might be interested in having help running a tour or two, feel free to PM me and provide us a warm introduction!

Like others have said, my opinion is also that if you like or dislike an iem out of the box, I wouldn’t put too much hope in burn-in making a big difference. Your brain and ears adjusting to the sound is probably more significant than any physical changes to the IEM itself. That’s not to say that I don’t think it’s real or possible, I just haven’t experienced any major sonic changes from burn-in myself when it comes to IEM’s.

I’ve tested the theory on multiple occasions in the past by having 2 or more units of the same IEM of differing usage age and still not heard any notable changes, other than what could only be considered minor unit variance.

The only time I’ve noticed a substantial change with burn-in under those same conditions (having multiple units side-by-side) has been with DAPs.

Aful Performer 8 landed today - a $369 hybrid with an 8mm dynamic driver and 7 balanced armatures. Interested to hear how it stacks up as certainly seems to be getting high praise.

My only comment so far is that I love the compact and incredibly light shells! A nice stock cable too - although only 3.5mm available.
