@i luvmusic 2 in another thread you wrote you like it a bit brighter, then i would go for the HD600. I recently bought a used HD580 which has the same drivers and the mids are more prominent and the highs not so rolled off as with the HD650.

Hi all,
This cable is beautiful looking.
Is this cable a sonic improvement over the stock HD 600 and stock HD 650 cables?
In what ways do the sonics improve over the stock cables?
How noticeable are the improvements, if any?
Any disadvantages?
Thanks!

I'm wondering if I should buy some new pads for my one...no doubt the sound must have changed from new when I bought it and the pads were less squished....although I am unsure of how the sound might have changed because it would have happened slowly without me noticing.

The thickness and material used in the pads have a big influence on the sound so you may be better off getting some new, original pads.

I don't think you can put a time frame on this. It's mainly looking and seeing how much they differ from a new one.

If I am not mistaken, as the pads get thinner an the driver get closer to you ear, the bass gets stronger and even boomy..

I've been going back and forth between the 600 and 650's for a few weeks now ( 650's have about 500 hours on them the 600's are fairly new and have about 75 hours ) listening to both the schiit valhalla and the schiit asgard 2 through the gungnir . The sound from both headphones are great in there own way but if I had to rank the headphone/amps it would be in this order.

1- valhalla + hd600
2 - asgard 2 + hd600
3 - valhalla + hd650
4 - asgard 2 + hd650

After listening to the 650s for 1.5 years almost daily before ever trying out the 600s my first impression of the 600s was a more clear less muddy sound compared to 650s but they felt a little thinner sounding after 2-3 weeks of only listening to the 600s I went back to the 650s and found the 650s to be too bass heavy and lacking some detail.

I agree with you, i really dont like the sound of the 650 specially on the high frequency.. it doesnt sound like a premium headphone

but most user say's you need to spend a lot of $$ investing on a good Amp to make the 650 sounds at it's best..

Step 1. Purchase an HD 600.

Step 2. Purchase replacement HD 650 drivers direct from Sennheiser. They are around $90 per pair...I read somewhere.

Now you have both for the price of an HD 650. Requires some work to replace, but you can swap them back and forth as you please. See which drivers you like the most, and keep them installed. You will end up with an additional pair of replacement drivers but you can keep them for future use or may be just sell them.
