I recently purchased a x9000 and an Eksonic Aeras. They sound beyond fantastic with classical and acoustic music. I am perfectly fine with other people who think the older models are superior, because I have zero regrets. It's a great feeling listening to music versus chasing equipment - a win for the ears, brain, and pocketbook.

interesting opinionTo my ears 007mk1 71xxx/70xxx and the Sr-omega are significantly better than the X9000 and 009/S.
I hold the opposite opinion of the 007 models. Different strokes for different folks. I’d opt for the X9000 over them if I had to choose.interesting opinion

Yea the 007 and 009 pretty much come down to preference with how different they are. Usually a fan of one typically isn't a fan of the other lol. Or at least that's what I've mainly observed. It's been interesting to see that people from both camps seem to enjoy the x9000 (although I know for some, it's not their cup of tea).
I know, besides me, at least one other fan of both headphones.
Only difference he has the SR007 MK I and the I have the MK II and you are now the second I know.

I have both SR-007 Mk1 and 009 and like both, each have their benefits depending on music style....

Can anyone confirm if this PSU is compatible with my SRM-252(II) (I'm in the UK)?

This should probably be easy but my electronics knowledge is minimal.

Recently got a 404 and SRM-1 system, used them for a week and would like to share my thoughts. Most of what is said on here about the 404 seems to match up with what I hear, amazing technicalities in general, bright-ish tuning, though they probably won't make you cry. The treble also sounds a bit weird to me, though that goes away with eq. My main complaint is the bass, as while it is clean enough to eat off of, it just lacks slam, even with eq. Also not the biggest fan of the ownership experience, as I have to put them under a dust cover (though they do have built in covers) and discharge them every time to prevent channel imbalance. The amp is also a space heater, and you cannot run balanced unfortunately. Comfort is very nice though (though that is partially due to the bad build), and is even better with a 3d printed pad mod. Ultimately, these things are a surprising value pick if you are only concerned about sound.

You need center NEGATIVE and the right size of the plug 2.1mm x 5.5mm which that one seems to have. 4W(atts) is only needed, i.e. 0.33A(mps), so 12V/1A is plenty.
But this is a switching device, if you want a quieter one with less "noise", ifi has one, but it is much more expensive:

Maybe this is a stupid question, but could one add spacers to a normal bias to make it a pro?

I received a couple SRM-Xh attached to headphones I bought in Japan, and I might as well put them to some use around the house. I noticed on the PCB there's a hole for normal bias, anyone knows if this is usable? The board looks fully populated... I would love having an nb semi-portable amp.
Edit: a capacitor seems to be the only thing missing for normal bias: C44 in the picture below. Any hints on what to use there, and if it's enough?

I purchased a pair of second hand SR-009 last year, and they sounded fantastic. They became my main headphones and I had them on every day.
However, eventually, they developed issues. After a few months, one side started cutting off sometimes (the left). It wasn't turning off entirely, as much as it seemed that way, it was just really really low volume. Sometimes it would temporarily resume working by tapping it a certain way, but that wouldn't fix it.
I figured I had ruined them by not being careful enough with dust and put them away since I didn't have time to deal with it. Now I'm thinking that I want to fix them somehow. I'm wary of disassembling these like someone seems to have done in this thread way back.
What can I do? Perhaps STAX can repair them but shipping them all the way there is quite bothersome.

A weak point of the cables is where they enter the headphones. The strain relief is not long enough to prevent hard bends. Especially that on the 009, the cables enter the headphones from the 6 o’clock direction. The cables are slightly bent even during normal operation (x9000 improved in that regard). If one of the three wires breaks, the sound will become weak or intermittent. Also, if the cables come in contact with your skin, oil and sweat can sip thru the porous sheath, corrode the conductors and harden the sheath, making a filthy mess. Of course you can buy a new replacement cable. If you are confident with your craft skills, you can also cut the strain relief open, remove the corroded wire sections and reconnect the fresh end to the phones. I remember someone from Russia used to sell 3d printed replacement strain relief on eBay, which would be perfect for DIYers.
Headphone stands and a bag over them is key. It doesn’t have to be a fancy Stax bag. Even a grocery bag will do. You just need something to protect them from dust at a minimum.
Beyond that, storing them away from direct sunlight should be a priority and humidity control should be on your mind if your location warrants it.
I prefer not to use the Stax bag because it looks cheap IMO and I don’t like light being able to reach my headphones unimpeded. My choice was to use bags crafted from this source on eBay.

I have had more than 10 headphone bags, two speaker covers and a turntable cover crafted by Alan all with great results.
