the way i read the tech specs I would say yes

Modi 2: 16/44.1 to 24/96, including 24/88.2, without Windows drivers, or up to 24/192 with Windows drivers (or using a Mac or Linux machine)
Modi 2 Uber: 16/44.1 to 24/192 via USB. 16/44.1 to 24/192 via Toslink* and Coax.
*Note: many optical transmitters cannot output 24/176 and 24/192 reliably

Please confirm the Modi2 can do 24/176.4.

You could look this up on their web page. Did you try?

I am looking at the USB only version of the modi.  And yes I looked at their website, And I just want to be sure that "to 24/192" also includes 176.4.. It is not mentioned specifically.

Shoot them an email, they respond very quickly. NIck is brief and right to the point.

Okay, I just got in contact with someone at Schiit. (Man, they reply fast! Literally in eight minutes.)

The Modi 2 Uber is still USB powered when you connect via USB. However...

it needs to be plugged into the wall. The linear power supply runs everything but the USB input.

did you get magni 2 uber too? i think if you experience no issue from your PC, amp probably gives you discernable improvement than dac

except if you have noisy dac/amp from your motherboard, then better dac will help.

if you're using onboard sound, you'll almost definitely hear a difference. onboard sound sucks 95/100 times.

Yeah, every computer I've used sounds totally lifeless directly from the headphone jack. And if you are using only an amp with no external DAC, you're just amplifying the low-quality signal of your computer's built-in DAC.

Wow!  that was quick..  just email them and got a response in 5 seconds!
It (the modi 2) does support 176.4.  Right now it is a candidate for a sidegrade (or upgrade) to my Dragonfly which unfortunately can't handle above 96Khz.

Uh, maybe give them 5 minutes. The Dragonfly has an amp built in, not much power, the Modi is pure DAC, Which version of the Dragonfly do you have?
I tell you, that Modi 2 Uber looks to be an incredible bargain. I would definitely spend the extra $50 on the Uber.

I actually consider replacing a V-DAC II with Modi 2 Uber in my "big" Hi-Fi system. Wonder how these two would compare.
Something tells me I wouldn't hear any difference, but I need switchable inputs and I have an urge to buy some more Schiit.

Do you like your Bifrost? Then I suspect you'll be pleased with the Modi 2 Uber. It looks to be scary good for a $150. The question is, is there something about the V-DAC II that bothers you or is it the gotta get something new bug? Which anyone here can fully understand. Good thing it's not like you have to drop a few grand on an overhyped DAC. I get the feeling that after a couple of months of getting production smoothed out, I might get one as well for my den to compliment the UberFrost USB that I have in my upstairs listening room (repurposed daughter's bedroom).

I love my Bifrost. And there's nothing wrong with V-DAC II. In fact, I've tried replacing it with Bifrost just for fun and couldn't tell any difference. As I said I'm more tempted with a switchable input. And yes, I just need more Schiit.

I used to have the V-DAC (the I version). The Bifrost was for me a subtle but important improvement. When I sent Bifrost back later for the Uber upgrade, I put the VDAC back in the system for those 2 weeks. It was fine, but had a little bit of a sharp edge to the sound that I didn't care for - and was happy and relieved when Uberfrost came back in.
I have read that the II version if the VDAC is better than the I, but haven't heard the II.

if you thought the bifrost was indistinguishable from the vdac2, note that the bifrost is supposed to be a much higher end dac than the modi and people say that it sounds better than the modi.
