I am not familiar with the 807 tubes but my impression is that Cossor was a rebrander and not a manufacturer.
Did they make their own tubes at some point?
They did make their own tubes. These particular tubes were labled a bunch of different things. I have them labeled as a Cossor 807, an ATS25, and a VT60A. You’ll also see them labeled GEC. Apparently Mazda made them as Cossor just couldn’t make them well enough according the the Valve Museum. http://www.r-type.org/addtext/add029.htm

I do hope I'll find soon a pair of Cossors like you have. Everything you say about them makes me think I'll love them. I've won an auction for a pair of "Brimar" 807 but as far as I know Brimar only rebranded the 807. I have seen many Brimar 807 produced by somebody else. Maybe I am lucky.
I’m not sure who made Brimar 807. You have the same understanding I do, that they were branding them Brimar. I’ve stayed away from them. Not like I don’t already have a bunch of others lol.

I love the Cossor/GEC/whatever 807 but as always different systems, different speakers YMMV etc. lol. Also be aware I’ve had 3 with either a loose base or cap. I think they can be repaired but it’s worth asking a dealer to make sure the tubes are physically sound.

Showcasing the Mullard EL34 metal base today. As you can see from this article, my Mullard EL34 metal base is made by Philips in Holland for Mullard.

All sound characteristics are well describe by the review in that link. I fully agree. Using with a single Brimar 6SL7gt red letters and a Emitron 53ku rectifier here.

How many times do I need to tell myself to stay the off off of ebay? I just won 8 of the Cossor 807 tubes. I put in what I considered a low-ish bid on two lots. Figured it would be nice to have a set of backups. To my great surprise and chagrin, I won both lots. Groan... I did get a deal but sheesh...

Am I hitting bottom? I won these just after paying for a big order from Billington. I keep saying I'm done but I'm weak lol.

Lord knows I must have had that urge in the past. Organizing my collection I realized I must have 30 14c5 tubes. Why in the world would anyone have that many of any tube, let alone that one? I must have been trying to corner the market or something…

There should be a support group for us…TUBA…..Tube Anonymous.

Off topic but perhaps someone can give advice: I just got a set of old custom cables with special wiring for Sennheiser HD650. The strain reliefs broke and the the wires are exposed but not broken.
How can I reinforce the strain reliefs? (It seems that someone tried to fix it with silicone glue in the past but it did not hold.)

Is that glue soft or hard?

One thing that jumps to mind is that you could use heatshrink tubing with a high shrink ratio (e.g. 4 to 1, or better), and if you can find heatshrink with internal heat activated adhesive it may adhere to that if the glue is hard. If the glue is hard, you could sand it down with some coarse sandpaper before doing the adhesive heatshrink to give it a rougher surface to bind to. If the glue on there is soft, maybe you could carefully scrape it off with a blade, then lightly sand the plastic before doing the adhesive heatshrink. Not sure if that would work, but just an idea.

Showcasing NOS Tung Sol 6550. Three O getters with solid grey plates - no holes. :relaxed: Coming from EL34 metal base, the 6550 is more dynamic, tighter and rather punchy bass. EL34 is more mid range pronounced whereas 6550 is more linear in the FR. More treble presence in 6550 and a commanding bass.

Dare I say that the 6550 is in the realm of GEC KT88. I will roll in the KT88 a week from now so I can hear the sonic difference more clearly.

EL34 metal base and Tung Sol 6550 are superb sounding tubes.
