The PENON official thread

The Fan 2 has....allegedly....2 crystal-plated biological diaphragm. How does one crystal plate something? What I can say is that on Day 3 the bass has opened up a lot considering they are two tiny 6mm DD's.
Same I noticed, the bass did over time get better. Still the amount is not enough, especially the sub bass was not enough for my taste.
What the bass did really well was having good definition.

Copied from F2 specs sheet:

Custom 6mm x 2 crystal-plated biological diaphragm dynamic driver - low frequency - Introduction of crystal-plated biological diaphragm:

Among many new types of diaphragm materials, biological speaker diaphragms are commonly used in loudspeakers, in recent years, high-end headphone manufacturers have gradually cited them.

The so-called biological diaphragm is the traditional beating technology using physical or chemical methods, adding a special proportion of biological materials to form modified materials to overcome the shortcomings of ordinary diaphragm.

Ordinary biological diaphragms will mutate due to humidity problems. The latest technology of crystal-plated biological diaphragm can solve the humidity problem and improve the compliance of middle & high frequency.

Those micro dynamic drivers designed and employed by Penon are rather impressive.

With Serial’s playing mids and treble duty instead of low on F2.

Custom 10mm Biological diaphragm (low frequency) + 8mm Titanium plated diaphragm (middle frequency) + 6mm PU diaphragm (high frequency)

What with all my sub-bass IMRs, and my Legato, the Fan 2 gives me mids, exceptional Sonion mids, guitars and vocals. I have noticed the Fan 2 really proves that cables make a difference. I have tried 4 cables and they all sound so different with the Fan 2. How could anybody not notice that cables make a difference? I'm happy that the mid-bass and impact bass have opened up. The sub-bass, because of 6mm drivers, will be limited.

It's a good IEM, especially for the excellent mids and treble both being tastefully done with good detail.

I sold my unit but still have the ISN H30, can call it the little brother of fan 2. Same driver for mids and treble, treble is more energetic on H30. Mids sound very close to the same between the two for me. Bass is also different, not as detailed but also fast bass that goes deeper than FAN 2 but doesn't hit as hard. Favorite of the two the FAN 2 as its tuned the best.

For the FAN 2 I preferred a good SPC cable.

With the Anniversary IEM here, I hope for bass that is similar to FAN 2 but more, same excellent mids and perhaps treble similar to the Volt.

Beautiful. This just goes to show that Penon’s fears of wire clutter under a clear faceplate were unfounded - and the wires are more interesting to look at than a blank faceplate imo. If I had gone with customs, mine would have looked quite similar to these.

Great impressions too, and a good summary of what I and many others have heard as well.

I would also like to mention the Impact scales with sources, and it could change significantly with cables. The stock cable is mid centric and transforms the Impact into a vocals specialist. The Totem cable is a pleasant surprise. It just enhances the dynamics of the Impact with better bass texture, better resolution and a more spacious soundstage. The Liquid Links Venom improves even more the midrange details with better bass impact. The Brise Yatono gives the widest of holographic soundstage. The PWAudio 1950 (shielding) transforms the impact into an analog set with extraordinary details retrieval.

The Yatono Ultimate 8W is indeed quite extraordinarily holographic with the Impact (the only problem being that I don’t own it).

And Timbre, I have never heard timbre from any ISN/Penon IEM that was this true to life? Where you have to slightly get to used to timbre at times, not here, and I’m thinking, this timbre is almost dead-on

Perhaps you should try the Impact next? :)

Catching up on posts - I hope Penon resolve their payment issues quickly and that no one lost money or personal data. For some reason I was unable to pay using credit card on their site for as long as I can remember so always had to use PayPal, but it seems it wasn’t the case for many here. Unfortunate that it came to light so shortly before such a big milestone anniversary for them.

Looking forward to first impressions of the 10th.

I have the 4W version but still a extraordinary cable.

Wait till you try the Totem with them. But if you want the best effect, Burn the volts in for the entirety of the week.

To this day I have yet to hear as much change for trebles as much as the Volts do using ESTs. Lets just say your hearing a slightly reserved version of the ESTs out of the box.
Thank-you, so burn-in begins!

Exactly my thoughts on using an all clear shell for the Impact. It looked absolutely gorgeous with unobstructed view of the innards.

Has been my experience as well resulting in me paying extras to PP with their cut throat exchange rates and fees every time.

The Yatono Ultimate 4W/8W are great cables. The ergonomics is my only gripe that I can't live with. Something else to consider is the synergy with the Yatono and Tsurangi. It really is next level! I digress though. This is the Penon thread so 'nough said.

Congratulations are in Order.

The Volt is a

Plays genres from A to Z. Lows and Top end are solidly bridged together by the astounding Mids, deliver an excellent performance anytime, each time, every time.
Penon's 1st Flagship is Serious business, but at the same time very, very entertaining...

I imagine ergonomics would be even worse with the 8W.

great write up on the Impact. out of curiosity which cable did you settle on?
For now the Totem. Good ergonomics and a very balanced sound.
