No normal DAC inside again. I guess this is again 15  + 15 mW, no?
4.4 mm balanced output - what is this?

Why not standard 2.5 mm?

Hope it sounds good...

i feel like in a couple years time most flagship audio gear 90% wont be within peoples grasp.

prices are getting sky high so an exciting but also a sad time for audio enthusiasts.

Well in reality the term "flagship" should mean best of the best, cost no matter.  Sennheisers Orpheus model for example.  As long as companies release decently priced models down the range then it's all good (imho!).

on point! I often wonder if Toyota Camry owners feel as much disappointment and outrage towards Toyota for making F1 cars inaccessible to everyone.

Nope.  We asked about the DAC chip, but we didn't get much other than it was a proprietary S-Master setup.  They've said that they'll be giving us more details in a little bit, and I will try to work with them to get info out.  The output power has been increased, impedance not exactly forthcoming.

According to one of the local HK audio site reports, based on Sony's official statement:

3.5mm output: 60mW + 60mW

4.4mm balanced output: 240mW + 240mW

Sony claims that both WM1Z and WM1A provides output power 4 times more than NW-ZX2

2.5mm was an Iriver standard, 4.4mm is the official JEITA (Japanese version of DIN/ISO) standard as of this April.

Newly announced Onkyo and Pioneer DAPs are also migrating to 4.4mm no 2.5 or dual 3.5mm

The math is right it seems. Kudos, finally Sony wised up here, the the ZX2 was a typical cell phone power territory, like their own Xperia models which was a real shame for that price.

Well, today many other producers use 2.5 mm. New standard means that all your existing cables are not compatible.

I posted photos of the Sony Walkman NW-WM1Z, as well as the Sony MDR-Z1R headphones. Photos include the MDR-Z1R with earpads removed, shots of the new Pentaconn 5-pole 4.4mm balanced plug, and the NW-WM1Z with an Astell&Kern AK380 for size comparison. (Click on link below.)

I'll post impressions of both soon.

Sony never revealed the headphone output impedance of the zx2, what assurance can they officially say that the A and/or Z version will not hissy?
I'm happy for all the others that wanted more power and are going to receive it, but the zx2 was plenty powerful for my iems, it just wasn't quiet clean.
This is the last remaining aspect I need sorted out before I can making plans to get to afford it (gold)

Edit1: also they just mention the internal wiring cable to be Kimber Kables for the Z and plain OFC for the A, but that doesn't mean Kimber is not also using OFC themselves, albeit maybe better insulation and higher purity copper. But still, requires more clarity and less marketing.
