Actually, this is the 100th, not the 101st, World Series. There was no World Series played in 1994 (players' strike cancelled what would have been the 1994 World Series) or in 1904 (the superstitious New York Giants refused to play the Boston Pilgrims in what would have been the 1904 World Series).

We all know now that the NY Giants is now the SF (San Francisco) Giants, and the Boston Pilgrims is now the Boston Red Sox.
