I think Grado might have changed the 325 again.
My new SR325i sounds nothing like how everyone on here describes it.
In comparison to my SR80, it is a LOT warmer, thicker, fatter, but retains all that grado detail. It is not all that bright, and actually sounds remarkably well balanced, with strong bass, and accurate highs, and a ridiculously full sounding midrange. The SR80 actually sounds airier, with more treble and slightly better instrument positioning, while this sounds far more solid and forward, but strangely has a larger soundstage.
Unless i have vastly different ears to the rest of you, I'd say it was pretty safe to say my 325s arent the same as yours! Some of you have described them as 'shrill'. NEVER do they sound even slightly shrill, always thick and fast.

any thoughts on the above?^
I'm really quite puzzled if my headphones are the same as the rest of head-fi's...
I bet there's hundreds of people that haven't bought SR325i's because they've been told it's overly bright and shrill by the vast populous of this forum, AND IT'S JUST NOT EITHER OF THOSE THINGS. It's got better bass than my Super.Fi 5 Pros, it's got a far richer midrange than my SR80s. To me it's the ultimate phone

I just picked up my new 325i's from my local hi-fi store. They don't carry them and had to order them from Grado. Every complaint people had about them was correct. They are heavy, dont really stay on my head and aren't exactly the most comfortable headphones. The sound is worth everything.
They are #7652.

Solan here. Proud 325i owner. I use them both for reclined listening as well as for walking outdoors with a portable player -- or on a treadmill, connected to my MacBook Pro to watch a movie (I have to submit a picture of that set-up sometime).

The 325i do - despite their size and quality - work perfectly well as portable headphones, and stay put. I have worried, though, that this mobile use might wear them down and have pondered buying some lower-end Grados like 80 or 125 for my mobile activities (which are also noisy enough that I don't get the full quality benefit of the 325i).

Can you new 325i owners do me a big favour and have a look through the back of the cans at the drivers. Do yours have a painted tar-coloured centre bit with "GRADO 32" printed on them?
I suspect mine may have the wrong drivers in them.

The back of the drivers of my SR325i are plain blank metal with no marking.

2 questions:

#1: Where on the cans is the serial numbers you present printed?
#2: Which lower-end Grados would suffice for watching movies from my laptop while I am walking on a treadmill? I have discovered that I turn the sound up if speech is unclear, so I am looking for the lowest fi that won't make me turn up the volume higher than I do with the 325s.
