LID is just an electric circuit, and does not include the 3D printed sub-housing inside the IEM, right?U18s is tuned to be less clinical; meant to really press into your music and get lost in it. It responds really well to tip and apex module choices, so you can brighten it up and even out the bass response with the spinfit tips and mX modules. It was designed at a higher volume, so that plays a big role in it's tonality. U18t is highly detail focused and quick, some folks might not want to use tips that brighten up the sound since it would tip the sound into bright.
U18s is a lower sensitivity so you will have to drive them harder compared to U18t but in most cases that will also mean you will have a lower noise floor. U18t is actually more picky with amplifiers.
Since U18t is so sensitive a lot of amps' noise floor is made very apparent. The impedance is also not linear so you need an amp with really low impedance >.5ohms. The impedance also gets very low in the low frequencies so some amplifiers have difficulty delivering voltage. Some folks can get the Dragonflies to short out at really high volumes using U18t and some IOS mobile devices go into complete square wave distortion at about 75% volume.
LID removes the frequency response variability that is tied to the resistance of an electric component to current. Plenty of other things can influence the sound of your system so there's still plenty of fun in it. Although U18t responds more obviously to these changes it only tilts in one direction, so as you increase the resistance of your signal chain (amp impedance and cable) you will see a reduction in low frequency response.

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies
Say hello to U4s a universal fitting counterpart to the custom fitting A4s released in 2021. This four driver UIEM features a dynamic low-frequency driver, two balanced-armature drivers, and one patented tia driver; making it our fifth “hybrid” UIEM.

That review says there is a new M12 Apex module. Interesting
But not available standalone (yet?)...

agreed! me also wondering how is M12 with NioI was curious if this too. Would like to try the m12 in Nio and compare to U4s.
Yes, m12 is currently exclusively available with U4s. The plan is to offer it for purchase soon and to add it to some of the UIEMs as well. For now the only way to get it is with U4sThat’s right, it’s on the U4S release page. M12 being released together with U4S.

Would this be an upgrade to with a similar sound signature as the Moondrop variations? I've been looking for something with a similar sound signature and available as a CIEM

U12t measurements with the various Apex modules:
and another graph showing off the m12 more because this pairing has been my go-to for the last couple of weeks. It's so good!

I've always been partial to the M15, cuz I likes my bass, but the M12 looks pretty nicely balanced!
