That sounds an awful lot like they’re saying they didn’t implement the DD as well as they should have for a $4k iem. A well implemented driver is, well, a well implemented driver. Improving implementation of a “well implemented driver”, at least if the FR and/or environment hasn’t changed, would be splitting hairs.
I’m not saying that’s the case but that is kinda what that quotation said.

Edit: this came off more flippant than I intended. If 64 was able to one-up themselves on implementation or anything else that’s a great thing; that means they’re progressing (and spending the $$$ on it). At the point of a $4k iem any improvements are going to be very minor and costly, paying people to tinker isn’t cheap.
Give them a try listening and then make up your mind. If I would have discounted all the hifi gear that looked crap but sounded fantastic I wouldn't have been in the hobby anymore for a mighty long time already. What if the IEMs are plastic but the best sounding ever?
It's often about the subtle changes you can make to an existing product that makes it a winner. Mostly these changes have been asked for by owners of the OG product, so it's great that 64Audio listens to their customers. They're not in it to get filthy rich as it's a meagre 500 IEMs only.
Personally I wouldn’t have a problem if it really was in part a way to cover future R&D. They could even use that as a selling point; a way to invest in better future IEMs. Better than they currently are would be something worth an investment.
You know what's great about plastic? It's really durable and has fantastic isolation (electrically). Exotic materials and magical wiring probably wont do the job better tbh.
On a different note: I bought a U6t from Classifieds some months ago and I love them. Prefer them to the U12t I had a year ago. Sure, U12t is the better IEM technically, but the timbre and tuning sounds more natural on the U6t. And it looks way better.
Just wanted to chime in from a happy customer

agree in this edition they definitely have - I was talking in general. And there’s definitely worse too your point - imagine dropping that on the on the floor and it’s gone…
You mean you suspect the two companies are using the same web platform for their ad campaign rather than build from scratch and maintain there own application development team, which is not part of their core business model?

I’m not sure how we got on the subject of plastic in relation to 64audio’s UIEMs, as they are all made from machined aluminum. Blanc is probably the only one that is any different as it has a ceramic coating.
It’s the CIEM’s that are acrylic resin, and I have to say my A12t is easily one of the best-made and best-looking pieces of tech I’ve ever owned.
