Well you'll have a collection fit for a king when you're through. Just keep a distance from this site for a bit lest you get swept up in the next hype as 64, VE or Sony decide to release a new flagship in the coming months.

Lol this is true. I'll have to keep reminding myself that I'm done and fight the temptation of shiny new toys. Or I can just look at my empty bank account as a reality check

@Damz87 we are in the same boat except I use Erlk M5 A18s and soon Odin. Although from what I’ve read from reviews I don’t think the Odin will stick around much.

90% of my listening time is with the Erlk as I think the whole presentation alone is the best for my preferences. Usually in the morning i spend time with the M5 and then the A18s gets the least. Mainly because it’s just not as musical to me as the other two but I use it more for a laid back mood.

At this level of IEMs it’s definitely more fun to diversify the sound rather than just try find “what’s better”

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Odin and how it stacks up for you :) Maybe I'm being too harsh on the Odin's mids. I think I was expecting something a bit lusher for some reason. I just feel like thick mids would've been amazing with it's bass and treble

The mids are what is throwing me off so far from reviews, I’ll be sure to share once I get it though. It’s very hard going from mids with the way the erlkonig presents music to anything “thin” sounding.

You should do a shoot-out review after you get the Odin and listen to it for a bit. I would like to hear your thoughts on ERLK vs A18S vs Odin especially, but also the M5. Tks.

I will post impressions around for sure. I try not to go into full reviews much as it’s not my thing. I just prefer giving quick comparisons and impressions :)

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts in so much detail man :)

Ultimately for me, the Erlkonig isn’t even a competitor to the 18s because they serve two different purposes in my IEM collection. Im not a 1 IEM guy - I’m searching specifically for 4 IEM’s that I can rotate depending on the mood. 1 as a reference/detail specialist, 1 for mids and emotional engagement, 1 for bass fun, and 1 for treble fun.

The 18s is exactly what I’m looking for in the reference category. It has the musicality that I love from the U12t, but also the detail retrieval of the Anole VX. I really liked the VX but the narrow soundstage eventually got me looking elsewhere. I also really like the U12t but it kinda lacked the excitement that I am looking for. The 18s bridges the gap between both. So my search is over with the 18s :)

The Erlk will stay as my mids specialist. For bass I’ll keep the LX SE and for treble the IER-Z1R. I’m happy with all 4 IEM’s capabilities across the frequency spectrum but they all have their specialties too. I’m done searching for now. My wallet can’t handle this chase any longer 😂😵

In this context (searching for "4 specialists" that are also all-around awesome iems,) I completely understand what you're going for. :relaxed:

I still love and highly respect the a18, and i look forward to hearing the s. i am sure that 64a made a bunch of enhancements to improve the overall sound and engagement of the 18t, and i'm sure i'll like the s a lot.

as i've said, at this point the thum is really the only other iem that i'm seriously considering adding to the stable...really looking forward to hearing that one as well.

cheers, and happy listening, @Damz87!

Well, if you want something completely different from the ERLK the Thum is it. Would love to hear your comments about it.

You probably arent. Honestly the hype train for the odin is going super super strong at the moment that its easy to get swept up in thinking that it has no faults whatsoever. But this is reality, nothing is perfect, and having proper expectations is likely the smart thing. So when its been described as perfect, and you hear it and its not, well, I get it. Probably arent being too harsh, it just likely isnt what you were looking for or hoping for. I do still want to hear it at some point, but at that price its firmly out of my comfort zone. Plus I am quite happy with my nio.

Sincerely I will still stay with my beloved Tia Fourte Noir and rather do cable rolling then buying new iems. As the technology and ability to let me use my iems days and days long with sessions of 5 hours a day and some times more, there nothing as healthy as a nice apex or a similar technology to relieve your ears from that pressure! Consider that not having this feature means you can potentially permanently damage your eardrums!

So just because of that feature alone I am staying with 64a.

Fourte noir is an amazing iem it can be sound changed by swapping cables and ear tips into anything you want!

I don't feel the need to have any extra iems to fill any gaps.
I think when you have the same pair of gears you get accustomed to it better and it sounds also better more and more with time. When you swap things around you play a risky game where you can lose that synergy of pleasure and now your in a galop of a new taste new flavor to revive those lost moments of pleasure but it doesn't always come back and you ask yourself questions why?

Well because you keep changing things around! Need to stay with 1 gear and learn it and listen to it every day then those good vives and delightful moments will come back!

But yea fourte noir + premium silver cable is the dop guys, maybe a18s is more a technical beast but noir has its big glory to so I stick to that one. There is limits of how music should be or shouldnt. For me noir fills all the marks

Yup, I’ve talked extensively about it with some hf buddies. Really looking forward to hearing the thum, as I believe the erlky/thum would be a great complementary pair of iems.

What’s a good IEM to complement the U12t? Was thinking Sony IER-Z1R, but the size and comfort of it is making me think it’s a bad idea.

As a current U12T owner, I figured something w/ a DD and slam would be a good compliment. Z1R is a good suggestion but as comfort is an issue, perhaps a LX or Nio.

hey guys I decided to sell my premium silver cable. As I am going after the 4.4mm version of the same premium silver cable it is for my sony daps.

If anyone is interested the link is in my signature!

By the way using d'ongles with cables is not a good idea and it deteriorates quality so I will stick with straight connection for best results.

Trio can be a very good option as its way more fun and active as sound. It has a superb drive. Think of u12t is for relaxation times and trio when your clubbing lol
