Oh oh, I didnt think of that!
Looks like Ill B ordering new AKG pads now!
Dam I was so carried away lol

Stuffed AKG pads sounds amazing with these S400s, not so much with the S500s but it still sound wonderful in their own way, just not enough bass when the AKG pads are used with the S500s. But for folks that want a "flat" balanced sound with tight/ lean bass on their S500s man these AKG pads are crazy HD and fast. Pad tuning never sounded so good and easy on both of these JVCs but you just have to know your sound preference.

@rick, glad that you are hearing what i am hearing on these stuff pad/ tape mods. It is subtle in sound change but makes a pretty big difference for me in the overall enjoyment of these CNT cans.

I received my S400s today and my first impressions after 7 hours of MAX volume burn-in:

I like the big, round bass.  But coming from the JVC FXT90s IEMs, I feel that that the treble is subdued.  The bass is full and round on these and I like that.  But its a tad much compared to the top end.

However I turned on treble boost on my ipod touch and I got something close to my IDEAL sound signature: full, punchy bass that extends its warmth a little into the low mids and a treble that is alive and sizzling but not center stage.  This sound signature is PURE FUN!  It reminds me of the PX100.

After EQ I can tell the treble is quite capable, very detailed and textured, and fast.  Can't wait to see how they are after more burn-in.  These are very dynamic cans.  Classical guitar sounds really great on them and so does acoustic band music, and electronic.  Vocals are GREAT.

I am more than satisfied for $30.  It's sure a lot better than the ATH M50s were ($110), and I like this signature better than the FA-003's ($160).
I think some people might say this headphone has "bass bleeding into the mids" but my experience is that this is almost always a good thing.  The high bass/low mids accentuate the body of strings and vocals.  I would rather call it "an enveloping warmth" - the S400s are a very warm-sounding headphone.

Hi there Hayang.  Yes, you will feel the need of treble if your comming from iems like the FXT90 and even the FXD,  IMO is the less "treble heavy" phone of all of this CNT family.

The S400 is on ear and the M50 is over ear, that means the M50 is bigger

It's just they're a lot cheaper than the Japanese import ones and it says neodymium magnets which I didn't think was right. Just looking for some reassurance . Also, anyone have any experience with finding a case/carry pouch to go with the s400/500s?

I've got 3 of these : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251176748900

A little tight but the S400 and S500 will fit nicely into these case without bouncing around should you shake it.
