The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

There are a lot of SE amps out there too, be it budget or more expensive. They're not that hard to drive, so SE makes sense anyway.

Could you tell me in which areas you think the 58x is superior compared to the x2hr? I tested the hd660s at store and I was not impressed. I didn't like the narrow soundstage and the clarity/imaging didn't seem that much different vs the x2hr.

The X2s and the HD58X are very different. The X2s has a much wider stage and overall more energetic presentation compared to the more laid back and closed in HD58X. Both are great headphones imo.

Am I the only one sad to see Sennheiser fall so far from the sound quality of the HD540, HD560 and german made HD580/Jubilee?

I guess tell us what you mean by that? In which respect do you feel like they've gone downhill? Honestly curious.

I owned the HD-540 Reference Gold in excellent condition, but I sold it because I thought the 600, 650 and 660S sounded much better. The timbre of the 540 (it was the 300 ohm, not 600) was excellent, but not better than the 600 IMHO.

Looking forward to it! But the 3m cable is a bit too much. Why not 1.2m?

It really sounds like they are being nimble and adjusting to a massive reduction in revenue due to the virtual disappearance of live events, reduced in-store sales, etc. The news release also mentions that it's the support divisions, supply, etc. taking the hit, not product development.

I hope that when they say the consumer and professional operations are being given more control, audiophile products fit under one or both of those units.

Sennheiser timbre is where it’s at! 🤓

This seems a lot like a spiritual successor to the HD-590, which was my first "real" headphone 15 years ago. Same 120 ohm impedance and single-entry cable, too. Let's hope these sound better than 590. If these can manage to at least be a "sidegrade" to the HD-650, I would be happy. I think Sennheiser is intending these to be a "gateway" headphone to tempt mainstream consumers into the higher-end world. In that role, the single-entry cable isn't such a bad thing.

I could see them being useful for a desktop setup when you want something comfortable and convenient to reach for when listening that still meets a minimum sound-quality standard. Heavy and bulky flagships with obnoxious cables aren't always the most convenient for quick sessions or passive listening when you're trying to focus on something else like studying. It's part of the reason I've stuck with the 650 for so long, despite having owned several flagships from various brands.

EDIT: Maybe these will have modding potential, too?

I do like single entry cables for headphones that can happily be driven from SE outputs. With a dual entry cable I always end up getting the cables either twisted around or wanting to lean one way or the other right near the split and it bugs me.

"4.4mm/2.5mm BALANCED Audio Cable For Sennheiser HD595 HD 558 518 HD598 Cs SE SR HD599 HD 569 579 HD 2.30i 2.20S 2.30g headphones"

What do we think? Do we have a solution to connect to amps with pentacon balanced?
I have exactly that cable, the 2,5 version, and I use it with my HD599 to connect to my A&K SR25. If I understand correctly, it should work as well with the HD560s

Those cables are hit or miss. I did purchase the black version in anticipation of receiving the 560s, but I don’t have high expectations

I have seen a number of posts where various Senn headphones are mentioned along with the Sundara...

I am very interested to see if the 560S will make me a convert to Sennheiser! A couple of years ago I owned the 6XX, 660S, 58X, and the HifiMan Sundara at the same time (along with others). As much as it pains me to say it, I just did not get along with the 6XX - simply for my taste too much of an inverted U sound; the mids were great but no bass or treble to make the music come alive (I stress, to me). The 660S was better, more engaging, but still not where my other headphones were at. The 58X, to me was the closest I came to feeling the bass and the treble, and also felt they were the most dynamic of the three.

Two years later I still have the Sundara (along with Eikon, Elex, Panda, Phantom, GraphenQ, Erupt, AFC, and Ether CX), but the 6XX, 660S, and 58X have long ago gone to owners that would appreciate them more than I did. I am really hoping the Senn 560S will be the Senn I will want to keep - the form factor and comfort would be great if it came with a sound signature that I enjoy!
