Just got mine in the mail today.  First impressions, they feel a bit muted in clarity.  The bass is certainly there as they give me the body rumble feeling my XB90EX's give me.  Gonna let them burn for a while as I know those carbon tubes need some time in the oven before they really shine.

Has anyone here heard the Sennheiser hd 439's and can compare them to the S500's. Looking for an upgrade/new phone to listen to.

My cousin has the HD449 and Bose AE2, I tested them together on an Ipod Classic 160gb. The AE2 is 3x more expensive than the S500, but he got it for free.

They are very different from each other, the S500 is on ear and has a smaller driver. The others are over ear, which I prefer more.

The S500 wins on bass and power (The other two headphones: I had to turn the volume on max to get some sound out of it)
The Bose AE2 wins on comfort and is more dynamic! Most comfortable headphones I had on my head!
The HD449 is a neutral headphone but lacks power.

The only thing the S500 lacks is, they lack dynamic detail. But that is my personal experience, everyone its own taste. It needs some EQ.

If you are a bass fan, these are it.
If you are a treble fan, go with another headphone.

I do love music with a lot of bass but recenlty I've gotten into other genres and songs like "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and men and "Lights" by Ellie Goulding. Can the S500 do different Genres with justice or do I still look somewhere else?

Nah, the s500 is not only for bass heavy music. It's very versatile and treble is almost spot-on for me - smooth, extends well and has enough energy without being particularly fatiguing. There's nothing like "if you like treble you should get another headphones" - I like treble and don't find the s500 lacking in this department even in comparison to something like my er4s and b2, which both have great highs.

*dies from amazingness*

No, seriously, this sounds awesome.

Also, looking at the graph of HD 439... It has less treble then these.

Thats what I wanna hear

As the the 439's, it was a present for christmas and my headphone so I was fine with them, until I started browsing these forums and curiosity got the best of me

I'm now using a SGS III, and PowerAmp for music playback. Last night I listened to Daft Punk's R.A.M. and it sounded excellent with the S500. I ended up going to sleep late,...but it was worth it.
