To be more realistic,  with a help EQ you can make any non-neutral HP sound more expensive, but the ones which are already expensive aren't exceptions either. 

While both S500 and CAL are very good for their price, they can't be compared to DT770 and similiar non-overpriced cans from $150 range.

That's gonna be a close call, but if you are looking for portable/outdoor mainly cans I would say S500. If used indoors or in relatively quiet environment, then CAL is probably your best bet. Btw, both should greatly benefit from EQ but can live without it as well.

I bought the S400, S500 and CAL! at the same time and after a day the CAL! was packed and ready to be be return.
The cal was nice but the S500 is better.
