I'm wondering how many others here have tried to pair the DX50 with re400s. I've recently ordered both. The DX50 to replace my dying (last gen, hard disk) Zune 120 and the re400s to replace my dead RE0s. I'm sure it'll still be a big improvement but it bums me out to read these big negative posts about the pair of them together.
The DX50 has done the permanent (except recovery menu) iBasso loading screen glitch again, after scanning files. I realise I'm using a beta firmware so I'll wait to see if it's fixed in the proper firmware update this week. If not, then I'll complain.
That bug is one that iBasso has stated is one of the main reasons for the final version of v1.2.3 along with added stability. They are also adding a few cosmetic touches as well.

Mine doesn't and hasn't since updating to v.1.2.3 beta. Did you do a factory reset after updating and also remove and replace your SD card and select the "Media Scan" option? Sounds like a leftover from v.1.2.2.
I was following this thread for some time but now it just got too many posts and I'm a little bit confused now. Plus nearly every post I read here is about complaining about the DX50. So please let me ask one or two questions. Is it really that crap right now? I'm gonna load it once with a 32 or 64gig card full of music and won't touch that section for some time.
This scanning stuff appears all the time or only when I want it to scan?
Is 1.2.2 stable enough for every day use?

Countless times, my feeling is that if this is the behavior then maybe there are some file/tag combinations that the dap hiccups on and it always thinks some files got changed every time it is coming back from slumber.

It depends who you talk to. My personal opinion, I feel that version 1.2.3beta is not prime for use yet. if I were you I'd wait for the official release. In the meantime 1.2.2 is working ok,it has its issues but not to the extend of the beta firmware.
I hope that helps in your final decision.
Just so we put things straight, beta is for experimentation. The expectation is that the software might misbehave or lock up or shutdown so do not expect the functionality of a so called polished release. It's meant for early adoption and finding bugs in order to get fixed with the final release.

I personally think they sound great together. I think those that aren't enjoying the re400's just haven't given them enough break in time. I did not like the sound at first, but after a couple weeks they sound dramatically different, and so much better than when I pulled them from the box. I am coming from a pair of Jays qjays dual ba, and these are a massive improvement to my ears

Unless technology has changed drastically and it might have op amps can be pushed at higher levels with proper clipping so as not to damage them and it used to be translated by having a higher current throughput. However because you push higher current using a higher gain, the voltage across the load will increase due to ohm laws V = R * I. Like anything else you have to be careful not to push too much juice through your iems. However I believe you'll go deaf before you got the time to realize it's maxed out. As far as noise, the signal to noise ratio is pretty good on those amps but it will be amplified. Since your noise will be way below the signal you might not hear it. If you play a silent tune with a 0 analog voltage, that will make your noise soar like a sore thumb.
I have the regular SE535 and I do put them on high gain however the volume is way low in order not to get into the listening threshold. As far as I know they are still working great even at the high gain. Another warning, just be careful with the volume level left when you switch headphones. I almost got deaf doing that with the dap one time.
