Using a Dave as a DAC only with a GSXmkll is amazing on any headphone. Lots of headroom and enough power to drive any off the shelf non-electrostatic Headphone ......it’s definitely something to look into further.

We sell Violectric as well but while I think the product is great, the GSXmkll and the SPL Phonitor definitely kick the audio up quite a few notches.

    How about the he-6

What are impressions of the he-6 out of the gsx-mk2

I’m going to presume you’re asking me this question. My apologies if it wasn’t.
It’s no secret the HE6 required some real audio muscle no doubt but it’s a good headphone when supported by a good front end. If you’re a loud listener you’ll take the HE6 all the way to the top. If you’re using your HE6 and intend not to suffer hearing damage the GSXMKII is still going to reach the 3/4 position on the gain control. I’ve only listened to the GSX with the DAVE while paying attention to the HE6 characteristics but I can say “It Doesn’t Suck!” I’d say it’s definitely worth the listen if you’re an HE6 fan.

I'd just like to comment on the HE-6 + GS-X Mk2 pairing. It sounded wonderful to me, as if the GS-X Mk2 is the level you need to get to for the HE-6. Don't remember how much volume I used but I'd assume it was beyond 12:00.

My GSX-Mk2 is now freed for exclusive headphone listening in my office!

I strolled through town last week and noticed that one of the local dealers had a demo model of a Devialet 120 system on display. Out of curiosity, I asked him if I could try Devialet out for a few days. Off I went, hooked the system up to my speakers, connected the Aurender N100H to the USB port and turned the unit on. WOW, the sound was a revelation, just fantastic! A simple, but high-tech solution, reducing my large set-up to two small items! A few days later, I bought the Devialet and that's the reason why the GSX-Mk2 is freed for exclusive headphone listening.

Here's a picture of the Devialet, a true jewel!

Sorry if somewhat off-topic, but releasing the GSX-Mk2 from its pre-amp 'obligations', worth it! IMG_0552.jpg

Just wanted to follow up and say thanks! I just got the Yggy back from DC offset repair... now it's free from scratch noise! Thanks!

Back to enjoy some music and 3 day weekend, yay :)

what DAC are you using? And are you using balanced out from it?

At the time, I think I was listening through a Schiit Yggdrasil, using the balanced outputs.

Part of the reason I mention this is that I believe the Yggdrasil has somewhat higher output than other DACs. I don't have specifics or anything at hand, but I think there's some data on this out there.

The reason I ask is that I just picked up a Chord Qutest and am thinking about buying a GSX-Mk2, but the Qutest does not have Balanced Outputs. I currently also have a Schiit Gumby and Mjolnir 2 that I run my HD-800 (modded) and Utopia's through. I hooked up the Qutest to feed the Mjolnir 2 and it sounds great, but I have to crank up the volume a lot more running it SE.
Or I may try getting a SE to Balanced converter between the Qutest and Mjolnir 2 and see what that does.

Mjolnir 2 converts SE signal into balanced, while the GS-X Mk2 does not. The GS-X Mk2 is a waste of money for Chord DAC owners (coming from someone who favors Chord DACs and Gilmore amps). Instead I would suggest the Mjolnir Audio Pure BiPolar, which like the GS-X Mk2 is a balanced Dynalo amp, but it converts SE input into balanced (so you just need RCA to XLR adapters).

Or you can wait for the upcoming HeadAmp GS-X Mini or GS-1 Mk2 (Justin was deciding between those two names) which also converts SE to bal input (it looks like a Pure BiPolar to me).

Another option I was thinking about was returning or selling the Qutest and picking up the Chord Hugo TT2 when they are available, since that will have Balanced outputs.
