The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

My Calyx Femto is just under 300hrs burn-in time now, and I could not be happier with the SQ, the micro detail is something I've never experienced prior to this dac, the top-end "icepicks in ears" was my greatest fear when I first listen to the Femto, however that has now smoothed out quite a lot and continues to do so.

At this point I find it very hard to believe I'm missing out on anything SQ alone

On my radar for my next move...when, not sure. It really is a spectacular DAC IMO.

BDA-2 vs. W4S DAC-2se this would be an interesting comparison.

BHA-1 / Mjolnir are stand ins for each other.  Pretty much if you heard one you've heard the other, they are really close. ..  IMO both great with Audeze, not so great with HD800s

Already did it when zare came by earlier in the summer. The BDA-2 has improved on dynamics and musicality (the DAC-2 can sound a bit dry in comparison). Detail retrieval and sound staging is also better. But again, we're talking a $1500 vs. $2100 DAC, so nothing night and day here.

What cost 1.5K?  The new DAC-2se is listed at 2.5K  The BDA-2 is listed at what 2.4K.  List price for both the "new" units are about the same.

The question is how much of an improvement is the new DAC-2se over the first DAC-2?

The DAC-2 cost $1500 and the BDA-2 I can get actually is like $2000 (locally + sales tax).

Based on technical specs (the little that is available anyways) I think the W4S DSD2se could be up there with the audio-gd M7 and both should be better than the Bryston BDA2.

I have heard none of them btw lol but I am researching DACs ATM. The Bryston is an oversapling DAC too which I read isn't as "hifi" as a NOS type DAC?

OK - so I was talking about the DAC-2se..

DAC-2 already used top shelf parts.  The SE shouldn't be too different.  So far what I've read touts the new USB more than anything.  Which makes sense given the original DAC-2 usb is an m2tech oem after thought.  The DAC-2 DSD would certainly be the the higher value buy with a street price in the ~$1300 range.

Yah the USB on the SE reads good. Galvanic isolation of USB to audio circuits. Not sure if the SE self generates USB power like the M7 though - read in the W4S thread that it doesn't but that could be heresay.

Just to be clear it's the DSD that has the new USB.  The SE is a parts upgrade, nothing to do with the USB.

The New upgraded W4S DAC-2 DSDse has been out a couple of months. I got mine upgraded and have about 200 hours on it so far. Big improvement in speed, spacing and clarity. I kind of rolled the dice because I already was very happy with the stock DAC-2. I would enjoy doing a DAC-2DSDse comparison to the Bryston DAC-2.

When buying new*****

Not the way I read it on the web site.  The SE is every thing ie.. DSD / USB upgrade / and parts..

Yes but the DSD is also that minus the boutique parts.

DSD though is something I'm not interested in. Not sure if $1k is worth it if I'm not going that route?
