Haven't tried but you can always look for a Auralic Vega :p

I am looking for a quality DAC in the "under or around $4k category", that has the smallest footprint/weight possible. Not many choices; stuff like the Master 7 is too big.

Lynx Hilo is well regarded, but maybe too cheap for some people(?) The size is rather small though.

The same goes for some other DACs made for the professional audio world.

Grace Design m903 and Benchmark DAC2 HGC is approximately half the height, and the m903 has a somewhat smaller footprint as well.

A good suggestion, thanks! The Vega is on my short list.

The quote unquote high value short list lately seems to be:

Metrum Hex
PS Audio PWD2
Auralic Vega

I'm personally staying put at the PWD2 because at a street price of ~$2300 it's high value.  The new Bryston BDA-2 is also supposed to hit that sweet spot in diminishing returns.

I would add the new Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2DSDse at $2500 to the short list.

Have you had a chance to compare it to the DAC-2DSD?  The original DAC-2 was good value at it's street price of ~$1200 though.

I'm curious about that myself.  The W4S DAC-2 was very good but Eximus DP-1 & NAD M-51 are clearly better.  Not many reviews out on the W4S DAC-2 DSD though

There's an entire thread on the W4S DAC-2 DSD / se on CA.  Seems to be well received.

Listening to my HD800 + Master 7 + GS-X mk2 rig now with some of the best downloaded recording out there.  For all you Classical and Jazz lovers out there visit www.itrax.com.

Some of you may have met Mark at your local Audio show.  He's a one man shop and is dedicated to providing high quality downloads.  He doesn't have very much at the moment but he is growing.

The Master 7 / HD800 / GS-X mk2 is a great combo if you're looking to hear the recording as it was intended.  This is one of the most revealing rigs I've heard thus far and these recordings sound great.

I don't want to Hi-jack the thread. Here is the Computer Audiophile thread link....

On my radar for my next move...when, not sure. It really is a spectacular DAC IMO.
