They are quite different beasts.
LCD-2 is more naturally sounding and has better bass.
W5000 is definitely colored but to my ears has better treble, details, and spacious, multilayered, airier soundstage. Midrange is a toss, I like both.
After W5000 LCD-2 sounds veiled and stuffy, like stepping into small chamber, takes a while to adapt back to its presentation. If I've heard both in a store and had to decide between two, I'd never choose LCD-2 for sure, but it's nice to have both just for different taste.

Yes in deed.  I know what you mean..

Well, I've bit the bullet and procured one of these for myself. With the featureset and module upgradeability, perhaps I can stop thinking about gear and start listening to it a bit more for now :D

Congrats on the purchase! I have one for about 2,5 years now and haven't looked back, hell they'll have to pry it out of dead cold hands before I part with it :). Its a piece of art, both for low and high impedance cans.

modules have been upgraded in 9% of GS-1s

You're actually keeping track of who of your customers are upgrading their amps? That's one tight administration you've got there. I'm still considering mine, even though the difference with a DT880 will be minimal

I don't think it should be too hard to figure out. He knows how many GS-1 was made and how many of the modules were sold.

i sent an email to every GS-1 buyer (though i'm sure a lot of them have been sold).  9% is just looking at my order list for the modules and comparing with the # of GS-1s that have been built.  my goal was to hit 10%.  it's unlikely i'll be offering the modules after a few more weeks as i need to conserve the rare parts to use in the GS-X mk2
