And the thread rolls on...in a couple months this thread will gain steam and explode with pics, likes and dislikes. Thanks John and Todd for all the hard work in making the HF2 a reality! And congrats DYR in securing a job and hanging in there to receive a part of head-fi history. We all wait worldwide for our precious.

I strongly suspect that down the road, people will receive their phones and in all probability will either like or dislike them. It is quite likely that people will post pics, too. All this IMO of course.

I didn't order mine until they were released at canjam, about 2 minutes after I saw the first pictures.

It would be great if people posted their order date when their cans are delivered, so we know how far off we are. I know the first batch and probably the second will go to those who ordered on the first day, I am thinking I have about 6/7 weeks before they arrive at my house.

Question: For those of you who have heard both, how does the HF-2 stack up to the ATH-W5000. I understand that the ATH is a closed and more expensive headphone, and completely different, but they can be had for just a couple of hundred dollars more, including shipping, and I was curious to how any of you that might have heard both would prefer one over the other at the price points they sell at. Any impressions or thoughts?

No! If the W5000 is a bad headphone then I don't want to buy it!

Doesn't matter, I think I might buy a ~$100 set of IEMs to tide me over till the HF-2 arrives... I need a decent set anyway. I don't know anything about IEMs though... can anyone suggest something in that price range which still sounds okay?

The W-5000 remains one of the few headphones that I could not tolerate on any level. It had the most skewed and colored presentation that I can remember and other than being jaw-droppingly attractive held no appeal for me whatsoever. I can't think of a way that I would prefer it to the HF-2 but your ears are not my ears so who knows?

The W5000s would make really amazingly attractive shooting muffs, if you didn't connect them to anything, and filled the cups with sound deadening foam.

Dont know why they didn't keep the L3000 style even if it was wood and made the W5000, We need a W3000 bass madness in wood would be ok and less limited!

I will also end up having to get something to tide me over for the time of the HF2. Maybe Westone 3s or some ultrasones I dunno...

The list of headphones you have in your sig is a pretty good list of headphones I've tried and decided weren't for me, as they're too specialized.
