At last, here is my coveted "go to" EQ setting that really makes the Q40 sing like the proverbial "Golden Canary".
I am using an E11 set to "H" gain with a "0" colorless curve.
-3.5 114 Hz
+4.1 383 Hz
-4.7 889 Hz
-1.3 4375 Hz
-4.7 9427 Hz
+2.1 19.7 kHz
At this setting, in my opinion, the Q40 sounds better than my friends D5000 set to flat that I A/B'd. I'm sure given time using my familiar material and some patience, I could possibly overtake this bird with a D5000 EQ profile but with the D5000 out of the box, this feathered friend out chirps the Denon selling for 4x the price!
Caveat:
I'm modded with Beyer pads (critical).
My "go to" reference source track: "The Bomb", Jeff Lorber - Heard That, 2011.
Post your EQ curves if you have a hidden "Golden Canary" in your pocket.
