The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

Hello everybody. I'm a recent Fiio X3II owner, and I have a question I couldn't answer by searching:

If I connect the X3II to a DAC using the SP/DIF output, will ReplayGain affect the digital signal to the DAC?

I'm expecting "no", but I'd like to double check.

Thanks in advance.

I have not tried the digital out yet. In theory it should not be affected by the volume, but eq, roll off etc may. I know my I my iPod classic eq affects the digital out put when I use it on the istreamer.

I'm still confused as to why in-line remote doesn't work with any of my MEE earphones. Both FiiO and MEE say that they use the Apple CTIA standard, yet I can't even get play/pause to work. I have in-line control turned on on both my X1 and X3ii.

Has anyone gotten in-line remote control to work with any headphones? I don't have anything with in-line remote except my MEE earphones.

If I were to buy the new Sennheiser HD 2.30 headphones, I assume that I should get the i Apple ones and not the G Android ones if I want to use them with either my X1 or X3ii. This is assuming that either will work.

Dear Joel Benford,
Yes, the replaygain won't affect digital signal to the DAC.

Dear needmoretoys,
There are some headphones with CTIA standard but not be a quite standard in the market. We were not able to consider and cover all this headphones before, so we are afraid your headphones are not compatible to the X3II. Sorry if bringing inconvenience to you.

Found two interesting ideas for OTG on 1.4 firmware. They both do not need
a cable, but just those usb flash drives. Question is: do they work on X3 II :

I would like to avoid my cable -> reader -> sd-card monster.
Best regards all.

It's hit or miss when it comes to adapters.  I always used a dongle and flash drives or a Transcend card reader.  The few adapters I tried did not work.  I'm not sure why they didn't and I really only recall a couple that worked but I don't remember what brand.  You might search for the OTG thread for better insight.  I'd link you to it, but I quit following it a while ago.

Is it just me, or is there really no way to ensure that, when playing by Folders, individual MP3 albums play the tracks in their correct order?

The only way I can find to stop tracks playing alphabetically (especially disastrous for classical music!) is to label the filenames and/or titles as 01 name, 02 name, 03 name etc. which is a really tedious job in MP3 Tag for a huge collection. I don't want to mess with having to create playlists. Am I missing a trick here? Thanx!

Same problem on x3ii and x1, pretty much the only button that works on any of headphones is Play/pause and if you double press that it switches to the next track no volume or scanning tracks. I've pretty much just learned to live with it and try and buy headphones without inline mics and controls. Anytime I buy a pair of headphones if I have a choice I don't get the inline controls, as makes them feel cheap and mainstream for some reason...not always the case I know just a mental thing that's always in the back of my mind. I just feel audiophile grade headphones should not have anything other than music capabilities. Its like a multi tool, does many different things but nothing particularly well.

I have a question for Fiio,

I have a strange skipping issue on my x1 and X3ii. It skips/glitches only on flac or DSD tracks, 64 GB cards work fine but my 128GB cards cause problems. Cards have been formatted in the X3, copied using the X3. I was planning on transferring all music off reformatting and transfer back using a usb 3.0 card reader. Before I do that is there any known reason other than the card why I would have these problems? Is there a firmware update coming out perhaps?

I use a Sandisc 128g card in my X3 (X3 formatted) and it works no problem. Chances are if you want for an off-brand and a too slow card, that's why it's not working.

I'm not sure where you buy your music from or if you are ripping everything yourself from CDs.  Every MP3 I've bought comes with track numbers.  The same goes for when I rip music from a CD (WMP or foobar assign track numbers).  I'm just guessing here, but it appears the X3II defaults to alphabetical order if no track numbers are present, but I'm not sure why you don't have track numbers?  Did you remove them or did you buy them that way?

No in fact I'm quite anal about having track numbers, and where they don't get carried across from ripping my CD collection, I religiously add (or correct) them using MP3 Tag, in the standard format, e.g. 1/11, 2/11 etc. So my entire collection has perfect track numbering.

Every media player I have or had picks this up and follows the order perfectly, whether it's my Windows PC or even a simple smartphone, from an old Nokia with a Symbian player to RocketPlayer on  Android. But my wonderful X3ii seems to simply ignore this when playing from Folders, and defaults to alphabetical -- which is a bit of a pain. So far only numbering the actual filename or track name seems to work. It's driving me to distraction....!
