For those asking about inline remotes.

  • Don't forget to turn the setting on first (I know this soudns obvious - but some forget).

  • The inline remote will control play/pause (one click), next track (two clicks), previous track (three clicks)

  • It won't do volume control

I've just written to the New Zealand importer about the X3 II but I haven't had a reply yet.

The local price seems excellent - in fact, it's exactly the same as I paid for the X3. The value of the New Zealand dollar is very high at present.

I am noticing a slight popping noise before the new song when I manually advance between tracks. No noise is heard when the player automatically advances to the next song. Gapless on or off does not impact the issue.

Just got mail from Amazon with a proposal to buy the new X3 for 199.99$, including free shipping (in the US of course)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VR5JHVK/ref=pe_316070_137417100_em_1p_0_ti

the store has only two units, so you better be quick :)

*** needless to say I am not affiliated with the store/Amazon/FiiO in any way

I've just received notification from the importer that the X3 2nd gen is due to arrive in a week or so, He's going to let me try one out to see what I think of it. I've never used an X5 or X1 so there is obviously going to be a learning curve for me to grips with the "wheel". Should be fun.

Linux Users:

Has anyone successfully plugged the X3 in as a DAC?
somehow I am not able to do that. I had no problem with the first gen.
It is impossible to start phonon or yast to set a higher priority for the device. both programs fail to load...
the system detects the x3 but I guess pulseaudio is unable to handle it.
alsa works just fine, but then I can't play any DSDs with Cantata/MPD. And this is the reason why I got it.

@Brooko you said the DAC function worked OOTB, can you still confirm that? Is it just my unit? Is this a firmware issue (I reinstalled FW 1.0)?

The X3 displays that it's used as a DAC.

I am using OpenSUSE 13.1, KDE, Kernel 4.0 and currently pulseaudio

Worked fine for me through a debian and a gentoo system.
