Mine has a peel off plastic, but it's still on.

I was actually thinking about getting the X3 2nd gen along with the E12 for about the same amount of money as the X5 alone, and I'm glad to see that you think the combo is probably a better value. Thanks for the helpful review!
It's really difficult to try and quantify something like that. You might prefer the warmer sound of the X3 2nd gen as a stand alone....But personally, I prefer a sound as flat as possible. With the X3 2nd gen + e12 you wont get a flat response..but considering the type of sound sig that I prefer, I would still happily take the X3 gen 2 + e12 purely for the improvement in instrument separation that the e12 gives, and the buttery smoothness that the X3 2nd gen offers
After reading this my understanding is that e12 creates flatter response with better separation. Am I correct?
Please compare the sound of an X3 II with the sound of the original X3.
(I'm curious)
I currently have an X3 and an X5 (strapped to an E12DIY).
I am unlikely to pickup the X3 II as I prefer the pushbutton interface of the original X3.
I also LOVE the sound of it.
(But I am curious)
Many here talk about the E12... Is E12A a better match for X3K ? Is E12 better than the new E12A ? Is a huge diff btw the 2 units ? I think it is released awile ago! Is both delivers the same signature ?It's really difficult to try and quantify something like that. Ask TheoS53. After reading here, and on E12A amp, many mention all the advantage using an amp with X3. It anhence sound sig, separation! E12A is for IEM
