Does the player automatically recharge from USB power while in use as a DAC with laptop?

Straight from the FiiO website:

Q: Regarding X5 2nd gen/X3 2nd gen/X1/X3/X5's charging behaviour when connected to the computer

A: When the X5 2nd gen/X3 2nd gen/X1/X3/X5's are connected to the computer, whether as a DAC or as a storage device, power is supplied to the device as follows:
1. While the device is charging
Because the computer USB port has limited current capacity, the battery is given priority for part of the charging current while the rest powers the device directly. But if the current draw by the device is high, the battery participates in powering the device as well. Hence, both the battery and the USB port take part in powering the device while the device is charging.

2. After the battery is full
Because there is no need to charge the battery anymore, the USB port would power the device directly. The battery would neither be charged nor discharged.

In summary of the above, the powering scheme of the X5 2nd gen/X3 2nd gen/X1/X3/X5's ensures that the battery may be fully charged while at the same time guaranteeing proper function of the device. Finally, the battery will be at rest after it is fully charged, thus guaranteeing extended battery life.

Sorry no, as I don't have an X3ii and I don't listen to my X5/X5ii as a DAC from the computer. I should have been more clear. The functionality of both devices are the same though.

My recommendation is don't try to skip forward/back when using as a USB DAC, as it seems to be a bug. Unfortunately you can't disable the long press function of the volume buttons so just use quick presses to adjust the volume.

Seems like it is indeed a bug, and Fiio already knows about it.

"Fixed issue where the headphone output made noises if the volume is changed using the volume keys when the player is acting as USB DAC"

Big thanks for the reply and the link. However, I still find the description confusing.

What exactly does this sentence mean: "if the current draw by the device is high, the battery participates in powering the device as well."?
- When is the draw by the device "high"?
- Does it mean that device won't work properly as a DAC with an empty battery?
- Does it mean that a charged battery may eventually die on me when listening to a lot of music on my laptop?

I'm asking because I want to use this device primarily as a DAC for my laptop, and secondarily as a portable music player. I need it to function as a stable DAC for my laptop, I don't want to worry about battery level when the thing is connected to my PC.

For the record, my music library is roughly [75% CD FLAC], [~20% MP3] and [~5% 24bit 44.1kHz FLAC]. I don't like MP3 and 24-bit files, so I only add them to my library in case no other versions are available.

Yes, both CDs and MP3s are 16 bit. But FLAC can be anything (CD, WEB, studio master, whatever).

I prefer CD FLAC.
I don't like 24-bit FLAC.
I don't like MP3's.

Yes, flac can be anything but no more than 16 bits if ripped from a CD. I prefer the CD flac too. I don't care for the overpriced 24 bit audio files and don't like MP3 either.

For me I think a good quality 320 MP3 sounds as good as a 16bit Flac file with certain types of music like Pop or EDM. Now with most rock and types like it along with classical I think a well recorded Flac file does sound better than 320 MP3. I have yet to listen to DSD but now that I've got the X3II coming I'll check that out sometime.

It is hard to tell the difference between good quality MP3 and 16 bit flac sometimes but since all my music is on CD I just ripped it all to flac. I know I'm getting CD quality and that is good enough for me. I honestly can't hear better than that so CD quality is as good as it gets for me. I've never tried DSD and probably won't bother since 24 bit hi res audio sounds the same as 16 bit flac to me.

Two things, first you should never let the battery drain completely, in any device. Second, you should be fine using the device as long as you let the battery rest now and again from a fully charged state.

If you want a more detailed explanation of the quoted sentence above I suggest you go straight to the source and ask FiiO directly. I'm sure they can explain it.

Now and again, I let my batteries completely drain, as over time they can lose their Zero State, and you'll get less and less charge. Don't do it all the time, though, as it is a strain on the battery. But once a month won't kill it any time fast. Chances are good you'll upgrade long before it dies. I personally have never had one kick the bucket before I've moved on to another toy. My Galaxy S4 will be 2 years old this Dec, and the battery is going strong.

How do we bring a song's info up on the now playing screen while having cover art in the background just the way we see it right after selecting a song and the now playing screen shows up?
Mine keeps dissappearing after a few seconds and i can't get it back on the screen unless i go back to the album list and click the song once again.
is there any button i can press to bring the song's info back on the screen?

May as well post, I have found a feature with the GUI I don't like surprisingly. I am often pausing it for a while and it is a big rig so I don't want to rip it out of my pocket all time so I just use it in pocket. Though it times out after a certain period of time where you have hit power, power, play to resume music.

Am I the only one, I been noticing signal problems nothing overly alarming. At first my amp became confused between the lock command, and locking the signal so it wasn't being received. Which is fine reset it, but not it sometimes just shuts off completely from my computer. Or causes the X3II to fast forward the music as it plays back. Sometimes it will still be connected to the source but send distorted signals. Now the X3II seems bricked the light is on, but none of the buttons are responsive. Yes even support will say it is fine just reset it, but should I actually complain and have them send a new version of each of them just in case?

What happened was I had the cable commisioned to be go between the digital inputs of the X3II and E17K, I asked them to indicate which end was terminal A. Of course they didn't is why you pay so much money, and I plugged it in wrong then the Amp stopped functioning, then that was fixed and now it is messing the X3II quite a bit and I am worried about my headphones if now these two devices are compromised.
