Does the player automatically recharge from USB power while in use as a DAC with laptop?

Sorry no, as I don't have an X3ii and I don't listen to my X5/X5ii as a DAC from the computer. I should have been more clear. The functionality of both devices are the same though.
My recommendation is don't try to skip forward/back when using as a USB DAC, as it seems to be a bug. Unfortunately you can't disable the long press function of the volume buttons so just use quick presses to adjust the volume.
For the record, my music library is roughly [75% CD FLAC], [~20% MP3] and [~5% 24bit 44.1kHz FLAC]. I don't like MP3 and 24-bit files, so I only add them to my library in case no other versions are available.
Yes, both CDs and MP3s are 16 bit. But FLAC can be anything (CD, WEB, studio master, whatever).
I prefer CD FLAC.
I don't like 24-bit FLAC.
I don't like MP3's.
Fro me I think a good quality 320 MP3 sounds as good as a 16bit Flac file with certain types of music like Pop or EDM. Now with most rock and types like it along with classical I think a well recorded Flac file does sound better than 320 MP3. I have yet to listen to DSD but now that I've got the X3II coming I'll check that out sometime.
Big thanks for the reply and the link. However, I still find the description confusing.
What exactly does this sentence mean: "if the current draw by the device is high, the battery participates in powering the device as well."?
- When is the draw by the device "high"?
- Does it mean that device won't work properly as a DAC with an empty battery?
- Does it mean that a charged battery may eventually die on me when listening to a lot of music on my laptop?
I'm asking because I want to use this device primarily as a DAC for my laptop, and secondarily as a portable music player. I need it to function as a stable DAC for my laptop, I don't want to worry about battery level when the thing is connected to my PC.

Two things, first you should never let the battery drain completely, in any device. Second, you should be fine using the device as long as you let the battery rest now and again from a fully charged state.
If you want a more detailed explanation of the quoted sentence above I suggest you go straight to the source and ask FiiO directly. I'm sure they can explain it.
