Hey there X1 users, I have a question for you.  I was talking with a friend today about the X3/X5 models I am looking at.  He asked me which of these scenarios I thought was better, assuming Apple Lossless audio (sourced straight from CDs).

1: An old iPod Photo (I think he has 30GB model), using the 30pin dock to USB into a Fiio e17K

or

2: The new Fiio X1

So, I couldn't give him any real response, since I haven't tried out the X1.

Thoughts?

What headphones is he using?

OK - neither need a lot of amplification.  The Shures could be relatively sensitive so a low output impedance could help.

If it was me, I'd go X1 if on a budget, but if he can stretch to the X3 2nd gen (think it will be around the USD 200 mark), then wait for it's release (March or April).

I have an X1 and X3 2g with me at the moment, and have heard a 5th Gen Classic (albeit with different amp - my listen was with an Arrow).

Can I ask, where did you get the 128GB card from for that price? How much of the 128GB is actually usable in the X1?

£75

All of it can be seen by the X1.

To be honest 2 x 64gb cards at £25 each is probably bettr value for money, but I've always wanted to have loads of music on one card.

Thanks! Yes, good point about the 64GB cards. But I like having as much as I can available too

there's a 2nd gen x3?  how is that supposed to compare to the x5?

There are only a few review units out at the moment.  Comparisons should start coming out in the next couple of weeks - first reviews in March.  I have one of the review units, and so far I really like it.  Planning on critically comparing it to my other DAPs this weekend - as soon as I get time :)

Very interesting.  I personally have been considering X3 or X5, now I will wait and see what all the reviewers have to say about them.

What's the difference between the x1 and the x3 and x5 is it worth switching over from x1 to x3 or x5?
