I've been testing the battery on this and it seems to die at 2 bars.

It can last 10+ hours, but for some reason it dies at the 2 bar mark instead of 0. And sometimes it would random jump from 2 to 3 without me charging it.

Does anyone else have this problem? It doesn't seem like a battery problem since it's lasting the estimated battery life so hopefully a firmware problem. Still annoying though since I don't know if I should charge it or not.

Had the same issue with my Cowon J3...these battery indicators aren't very accurate

Can this thing power my senheiser hd 558 sufficiently without an external amp?  I'm using my clip zip with fiio e11 when lounging around the house and would like to cut out the middleman. It's just not loud enough for my tastes without the e11 in the middle.  But, I may be going deaf

X1 by itself with HD600.  Listening to Alison Krauss & Union Station's "Paper Airplane" album - which is decently recorded without being overly compressed.  To deliver an average SPL of 75-80dB (which for me is actually slightly louder than I'd normally listen), is taking approx 60/100 on the volume dial of the X1.

So it should handle the HD558 OK.

You may struggle with really dynamic classical - but for most music, it should handle OK.

Probably and most definitely a firmware issue. I had an issue like that at one point, but it was patched on my J3 long ago.

No one can answer if X1 plays standard MP3s as good or better then Cowon J3?

"Better" is subjective.  How do any of us know what you like?

Personally, I like the X1 much better than the J3 - but I wasn't overly fussed on the BB3 enhancements .....

I prefer the Sony house sound over the Cowon sound. On the J3 without any EQ the sound was very flat and not fun.
In this regards is X1 flat or more like Sony?

Thank you James!

Playlists (made externally) now working perfectly.  The only thing that many of us would like with playlists is for the externally made ones we create to appear in the "playlist" tagged subcategory.  At the moment, we have to manually navigate to them to load them.

If you or Joe could post a changelog with all of the changes at some stage, it would be appreciated.

I don't have a Sony.  Personally I find the X1 nice and neutral - not adding colour.  That's the way I like it :)

I mean neutral.  It doesn't add colour.  So the music is only coloured by the headphones you use.  I much prefer this than using an overly coloured (eg warm) DAP.

Beta firmware version 1.03beta for the X1 is now available:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/737958/x1-beta-firmware-1-03beta-now-with-playlist-support

Please move over to that thread for discussions on the beta firmware. :D As James has already noted, this version adds support for playlists and option to turn inline remote control on and off, and option to display filename or ID3 title in the Now Playing screen.

The battery gauge on the X series is estimated via the battery voltage only, so admittedly it is not very accurate.

Nevertheless, if your question is "I'm back home. Should I charge the X1 today or wait until tomorrow?" the answer is always "charge now"--since the Li-polymer battery in the X series has no memory and always benefits from a top up charge compared to charging when the battery is nearly or already dead.

My schedule can be a bit weird so it isn't always that easy :xf_eek:

Guess I'll remember that it might die when it reaches 2 bars. Better than the DX90 rockbox that keeps telling me I'm at 90%+ even when it's about to die.
