The Entry Level Stax Thread

I have read through quite a bit of the ESP-950's thread, and the second link I've also seen. The only opinion inside of that thread is that of someone who said "It's been too long since I've had an ESP950 here so it's hard to comment on the difference."

I was hoping that other people inside this thread might know the actual difference (or at least a more recent listen to each one). I plan to ask the same question inside the ESP-950's thread as well.

If you own the SRS-2170 you can always upgrade the phones or the amp at a later date, and keep upgrading as funds allow.

I don't think you can easily do that with the ESP???

^Yes, if you reterminate to Stax plug, that is.

Any info on how to bend the arcs of the sr007?
ie? at which points etc, a paint diagram would be great if anyone is up to the task =D

Anyone? =D

That's probably a question better suited for the proper Stax thread rather than the Entry Level thread

I'm about to purchase the SR-202 with the SRM-Xs amp. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? I can't seem to find any information about the SRM-Xs amp.

They are secondhanded (at least) and the owner is asking €350 for that setup, is that reasonable?

Thanks :)

I once tried a Stax SR-507.   The upper midrange/lower treble spike did not suit me well- so I sold them.   I was thinking about trying a 404LE.  Has anyone heard both the 507 and 404LE who could tell me if the 404LE does or does not have the same issue?

The SR-404LE is supposed to be the shining example of what a Lambda can be, or whatever, but they're so rare and uncommon I'm not even sure if you can find one.

I have an sr-202 & srm1-mk2 professional. I got my set for around $530ish shipped.
It sounds great, and I'm sure you would love it. Can't provide any info on the synergy of that combo, but at that price I can't fault it.

FYI you can get a brand new sr-207 set for not much more from pricejapan.com

I have my sr-007 mk 2 on order from them.

Everyone has a slightly different shaped head so just bend them so they fit you and your ears... the arcs are made of metal so if you make a mistake it shouldnt be too much trouble to adjust them or start again.

Re 404LEs - only 1000 pairs were made, that's why they're rare. In Japan they apparently sold out in a matter hours... had to get mine from a US retailer.

Very interesting, thanks!

I think I'd rather save up for a new set then :)

I am a little withholding with buying from Japan. What if the item breaks? Or are stax products so well made that they don't break?
