soundstage is for me very important....i dont know if the soundstage is accurate with the moment of recording yes....BUT the 3-D holographic incarnated sensuous presence of each instrument within a space between them like a bubble of silence  is the MOST important impression for me...

i dont listen to the  frequencies per se  but i listen to space... and yes i dont know if the dimension of this space correspond to the real event but this is not so  important ...The important thing is the 3-D space....

Well it's a bit old, but he was speaking more about imaging than soundstage no?

Ok, so the SRS-2170 is a good value choice, and if I want to upgrade it will be the SR-207 and not the SRM 252S. Thanks you.

The SRS-2170 is a system consisting of SR-207 headphones and SRM-252S amp. (The way you worded it made it seem like you did not realize this.)

  Is it this one? http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_good_info.php?code=1290&category=10
I can't find anything else and it seems to be the first version.

Older versions of portable STAX are discontinued. Current versions are:

SRS-002 (SR-002 + SRM-002)
https://www.staxusa.com/system/stax-srs-002.html
http://pricejapan.com/front/e_good_info.php?code=1290&category=10

SRS-005SMK2 (SR-003MK2 + SRM-252S)
https://www.staxusa.com/system/stax-srs-005smk2.html
http://pricejapan.com/front/e_good_info.php?code=1184&category=10

The SR-003MK2 is not compatible with the SRM-002 portable amp due to the fact that the headphone cable has the larger connector used with full-size amps.

yes your remark is on the spot.... imaging is the better word for what i describe there.....thanks

p.s. soundstage refer for me most of dimension, form,  distance etc imaging more of the content of each instrument in relation with the others... Its my interpretation only for sure...

I got the same interpretation as you richard.

I knew it Music-Alchemist, I even tried this setup. I'm just a bad english speaker ^^

The SRS-005SMK2 can't be portable if it has got a SRM-252S ....

But what about the SR-002 " mk2 " ? The one from here : http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/ces-2014-stax-move#eT6fkr8SdMkU3hz5.97

"Stax will also be redesigning the tips for the SR-002 so as to allow for customizable ear tips. "

Second version of the SR-002? Nice!

I will not really move with them as I already said, just house to bus and bus to school every day ^^ (like 300 meters)
And i don't care about isolation, it will be quiet around me.

In three~~four months I will have : SRS 2170 on schiit bifrost (or another DAC) + SRS-002 (if i don't change my mind) on ... a DAP
I can't waiiiit

It was why I insisted and precised "of the SR-002", because I knew that people wouldn't understand that I was speaking about the "vaporware".

Electrets are in the unfortunate position of being very close to stats without any of the positive reputation and all of the extra attachment baggage. So they sound pretty good but they don't bring much interest or money, at least the low-mid range stax ones. Rarer stuff like the sony's etc. seem to go for quite a bit for some reason. And the SR-80 that looks like a lambda.

When I say "new version of the SR-002" it IS the new version of the "SR-002 electrostat headphone alone".
Just look at the vid or read the article :

"Stax will also be redesigning the tips for the SR-002 so as to allow for customizable ear tips." =====> I was talking about THIS "new version".

And yes, there is also an amp portable and an amp + DAC portable like the SRM-001 / SRM-002.

The SR-30 is better than the SR-80 in my opinion, because the 30 has bass and the 80 only looks like a baby lambda, doesn't sound like one.

They seem to have the same drivers.

hehe. I'm listening to a song with pounding bass on my SR-30 this very moment. Saying goodbye...shipping it to a new owner soon.

Does your SR-30 distort badly at high volume or when there is heavy bass in the music? Sometimes I had to reduce the bass, the volume, or both to avoid distortion, depending on the song.

P.S. If you ever want to sell your STAX or other stuff in the future, PM me! I might be interested.
