Hey guys, I got my D-11 today (it's brand new) and it doesn't play. It spins up and gives me: "BATT 00(track)" on the display, then turns off.

Oh, I opened up the D-12 and it's line was flaky so I wanted to fix it. It turns out that only one solder joint was still in-tact!, I just finished fixing that...now it works like a charm.

HOWEVER, I can't open up the D-11 with my extraordinarily small swiss-army knife screwdriver, I was wondering what kind of screwdriver is good enough to open it (the screws on the back were really hard on the D-12).

I've had good luck with jewler's screwdrivers (also found cheaply in eyeglass repair kits), as well as computer repair items. I'd say go for the eyeglass kit unless you're prepared to drop some money; the computer repair ones in particular can get pricey. ESD protection and all that.

I'm new to the whole discman repair thing. I'm wondering what type of lubricant to use to lubricate the auger bit that moves the laser. I'm assuming that's the problem. Perhaps you guys could offer some insight to this as well. Ofter about 5 minutes into a CD the player starts randomly skipping. When you try to skip tracks after the first track the little zzzzz noise the eye piece makes becomes very loud. Almost like a scaping sound. If you guys could direct me to the right remedy I'd be tickled! Thanks for you help. My player is a Sony d-132ck if thats any help.

Does anyone know of any good repair shops that will repair old Sony Discmen? A lot of the authorized Sony repair shops won't repair them because the parts are no longer available. I actually sent a D-515 to Sony themselves and they were unable to come up with the parts to repair it.

So I was wondering if there were any outfits out there that attempted to repair and not replace the parts. Any info?

I've removed the five screws from the back, there do not appear to be any other screws, but, I'm unable to open up the case to access the ribbon.

Usually there are plastic things holding them together on the inside of the actual unit, maybe some prying may open it. Also, have you tried to remove the lid, or are there any screws on the inside of it?

Hi, I have just acquired a used but in excellent condition for $50US! Lucky me? The only problem I found is the volume. When I turned the volume up or down, there is some static sound, but once stopped turning, music comes out clearly. I am wondering if the problem will go away if I clean the volume control by some kind of cleaner (alcohol)? Please share your experience if any of you encounter such problem.

The thing happens the same when adjusting the volume with the remote! Also since the sony headphone comes with the unit uses a special plug to connect to the remote, is there any ways to get an adaptor for the that to use with the standard mini plug?

Get a can of contact cleaner and spray a little into each volume control. then work the volume control back and forth the full range of it's travel a few times. This should solve the problem.

I have a sony d303 which is skipping quite a bit, i am going to adjust the
tracking gain but is it the screws around the laser that you remove

Has someone come up with a D555 service manual, and if so possibly recommend a source? I noticed that on page 1 of this thread vwap mentioned the possibility of acquiring one. I've held onto my old D555, which I stopped using when its mistracking became nearly constant. It had its laser replaced once, but everything else seemed in good order (never tried the line out) and I never pursued restoring it until now. Don't know if I'm up to tackling it myself, but I can start with getting the SM. Also, having K501 phones now, good cables, and improving amps it certainly seems worth revisiting the old standby.

i've just bought a "broken" d311. it has the following problems: according to the seller, it makes noises when searching the next track and it can't play cd-r's. is this a pot-problem? and are those pots the same as the d303,d555,etc.?

well,


post this again. when playing the cd for the first time, it makes alot of noice than the pcdp goes goes searching the track. this takes about 10-15 seconds. how to adjust this player, so it works flawless.

I there anyone who does repairs on Sony D-25. If I can't get this fixed, I may have to buy an I-river Slimx 450 or 550.
