yes more Bose bashing. And yes, I know that early Bose (say 80's) models were ok and Yes, I know Bose are OK but horridly overpriced.
/disclaimer.

Anyway, this is the thread to post examples of how misinformed people have bought Bose and thus selling off stuff they had that were better / better value...

I'll start:

Denon DRA 700 for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.............. .

Why do you people like to bash Bose so much? Surely they can't be that bad.

Well, this forum helps spend people's money all the time so....

Also, as I said, Bose isn't inherently bad but they're just horrendously overpriced and are popular due to misinfomation.

they're popular due to successful marketing and generally high customer satisfaction, they're a good business from a business perspective, and they know their craft

as I said, who cares what other people do with other people's money, its just a Bose system, not the end of the world, and you aren't even being asked to use it, or trade your equipment out for it, this is like those "I was at school today, and a friend started an arguement about headphones...." threads started by most all the 14-15 year old members at some point, its OPM, so who cares

This is exactly why Bose is popular: They are easy to use, have small form factor, and have a big, powerful sound. Average people pick bose over hi-fi stuff because the Bose will give the impression of sounding fuller and more impactful. They have shakin bass, clearer than cheap-o mids, and a crystal sounding treble that dosent actually extend.

The trick Bose uses to sound good (they undeniably sound better than cheap stuff) is: using reflections to their advantage (makes the spacious soundstage), a dark sound signature (to make an aggressive and authoritative warm tone for the instruments) and equalizing the speakers (to make up for the small size and/or cheap ass configuration of the speaker).

Bose has a very convincing and unique sound that will draw most people into the music. The problem with Bose is they will make awful recordings sound good, and good recordings sounds way emphasized and artificial. Your average joe will think that is what good sound is supposed to do.

ask your average joe who denon or onkyo are and they often look perplexed - i see people walking around stores reading a "which" magazine, that practically tells them what to buy.

this is the same magazine that said the sound out of the ipod shuffle's bundled earphones was "great". so of course these consumer magazines will bum rush anything that has bose written on it.

though i remember when that bose 1st generation sound dock came down to £99 during christmas. which was ok, i guess.
