Absolute favorite? Tarja Turunen, the old singer for Nightwish. She has an AMAZING solo career as well.

HUGE Tarja fan here.  Her stuff, both solo and with Nightwish, is absolutely killer.  Nightwish's "Passion and the Opera" is a good example of the kind of jaw-dropping vocal chops she has.

There are better tracks to highlight her, but my favorites are...

Over the Hills and Far Away
I Wish I Had an Angel
I Walk Alone (From her solo albums)

I Walk Alone, Poison (Alice Cooper cover), and Die Alive are my tops for the album 'My Winter Storm'. Enjoy that album. It's so good.

Her cover of Whitesnake's "Still of the Night" is also phenomenal.

Kate Bush moves me. And I'm NOT partial to female vocals.

Extraordinary talent there, in many ways, too bad about the hiatus.

k. d. Lang
Emmylou Harris

Brandi Carlile (great live, recordings don't cut it though)
