So let me get this straight, ur going to spend 1400 on a set of cans and not use an amp..???????  They're likely going to sound worse than a ~200 pair.  They won't have the power they NEED.

Of all the currently available portable headphones I've owned, I found the Yamaha Pro 500's the easiest to drive without amp, but size and comfort may be an issue.

Is the Sony MDR-XB600 better overall than the XB500? I heard some people say that the 500 was better but I saw the 600 for $50 on clearance at Best Buy but I don't know if it's better to get the XB500.

If it sounds good to you thats all that matters then lol, nevermind my previous comment. Have looked at revies of the LCD? I heard those are pretty good (I wouldn't know personally though. )

I heard the same, though I'm looking for a closed can with little leakage.

I'm mostly happy with my monster inspiration, just wish they were a little more clear and revealing (and wish they didn't need batteries to sound good)

The Audio Technica WS55 can be found around $65. It would be a much better choice than the XB300. (Btw, $55 for the XB300 is a ripoff. You can usually find the XB500 around that price!)
