The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)
Jun 1, 2012 at 7:40 AM Post #1,876 of 7,138
Since I was looking at the WA22 as my final & balanced stop on the HeadFi highway, I find the above convincing enough. I hadn't even realized there was any question about that, would love to read up on that thread but searching for it here made for too many results to wade through, link please? (And/or how one could search for it more accurately)

Jack's explanation is enough for me as well, but feel free to read further:

From the owner's manual Q&A:

"If I connect the WA22 with RCA interconnects, will the amp still provide a balanced signal to the balanced output?

"No, there is no RCA to Balanced conversion in this amp. A source with a true balanced output will work the best with the WA22."

So balanced in = balanced out through the balanced outputs, SE in = SE out through either output.

Just got a special little package from Chris_Himself. Brace yourselves for cable porn!

Man, everything is so much more coherent. There isn't unnatural heft to vocals...There's a tad more air in the image. The changes are small, but definitely tangible. Plus, they're damn beautiful!

Yes! At least someone else writes about this! That was the most annoying problem with my LCD-2. And I also cured it with a new cable! I blame the crappy stock cable for this problem.

Trade your rev.2's for rev.1's. I honestly have not come across cables that can change a signature to that of another signature. Cables are not transformers.

I don't want to trade them, I like theme sound. Just sometomes wants a sound some darker. I used a silver cable for another hedphones and know that it makes sound some lighter, and silver-copper makes sound more lighter and detailed, than pure silver. Therefore I thought that it possible to make a sound which I want.

Ok, so, maybe to think about tube amplifier and by tubes try to change a signature... Now I have a Schiit Asgard amp.

Well I have the LCD2 rev.1 internally modded as well, and from what your saying, I don't think you will find amp's nor cables that will change the slightly warmer and forward signature of the rev.2's into a tonally darker signature headphone. Tube amp's generally just make the sound a bit warmer, possible tube rolling (depends on the amp as well) may change the signature a bit but to my knowledge and experience I don't think you can turn it into a darker sound (cold and bit laid back).

Pure silver cable's make the sound in most cases sound slightly thin but bit detailed with clarity (not day and night difference, slightly noticeable), copper add's warmth and gives more bass presence. My Piccolino (if you go down this path) offers the best of both worlds but comes at an high expense.

The Asgard's are not really a great combination with the LCD2's, they lack the juice (specs aside) to push Ortho's to sound at least half decent. Even the DIY Chazz II tube amp sounds 10 folds better then the Asgard and is only bit more in price.

Hello, guys. I'm owner of a LCD-2 rev2. I gave a short question, which not expensive cable can make a sound some darker?

My friend made me a DIY silver cable - good connectors, 4 silver wires with teflon isolation per channel. This cable removed the hump in the mids that was quite annoying to me and made the FR more linear with more prominent bass. The overall effect is darker sound. As far as I know my man has wire for 4-5 cables more. It costs about 80 euros without the shipping costs. If interested PM me. I can post pics.. I'm not a member of the trade! Just share my experience and may help.

Really? Just really? I think the placebo effect is kicking in. Come to think of it, I don't that is a darker sound, my rev.1 are dark and from the description you mentioned it doesn't sound like it at all.

Yeah I'm sorry...I didn't mean to derail this thread or anything...I said a "small change" not a change in the character of the freakin' can...
