Currently I have the Grado SR225 and the Shure SE530. I was wondering what the full sized anti grado headphone would be?

When I say, anti grado, I mean a sound signature that would be opposite of the grado's sound. Something bassy, laid back, and good soundstaging. Everything that the grado is not.

I ask because I want to compare the two most polar opposite headphones so I can hear the difference that people speak of between headphones. I can't tell the difference between my SR225 and SE530.

Thanks.

HD-650. Warm, great bass extension, great soundstage, and a slightly rolled-off but perfectly enjoyable treble response.

No one has mentioned it, but the se530 are pretty close to anti-grados already. If you can't tell a difference between those and the sr225 then I'm not sure how much the hd650s will benefit you.

Another vote for the Sennheiser HD-650. You will need to power them with a decent amp, however. Try something with tubes - you'd get an entirely different picture of your music.

You might also want to pick up one from the AKG K-501/601/701 series. They're not quite the polar opposite of the Grado sound, but AKG has a different signature altogether. You owe it to yourself to experience the AKG sound, too.

Denons fit the bill sans the soundstaging part, which they're also not the greatest at.

hmmm when I tried Grados from SR60 all the way up to SR325, they sounded VERY different from my HD600. Grados have more emphasis on highs and in your face sound whereas HD600 have warmer more balanced and laid back sound. I think AD700/900 have more grado sound. And yes, so my recommendation is also HD600/650 (even though I never tried HD650).

x 10 million for the HD650. if you want exact opposite of Grado look no further. you might want to get a older/used pair though they sound even more laid-back than the current ones.

I believe so and there are million threads discussing about the differences. I think it will be very easy to find those old threads.
